went to safeway yesterday. was 10% off day and I was only getting a few things. Saw some diapers in the clearance area. I asked an employee walking by how much they were because I didn't see the sign. She said, $21.99 (the super huge box), what great deal. I thought, great, now I will be over my $35 min and get my 10% too. Awesome...
go to cash, they ring up at $35.99. I say they are on clearance for $21.99, I even asked an employee. Cashier calls employee, then tells me that sometimes people move things. They are reg price. It's not my fault they move things! She then goes to CS and asks head cashier. She says no. She comes back and says no. I didn't even bring up SCOP yet, which I should get!!! She takes it off my bill, suspends my order and I walk right to CS. I talk to employee working there...then I see cashier come running up to tell employee, so-and-so already dealt with this. I wanted to say, some not so choice words, instead I said, thank you. (probably not a very nice thank you.) I was fuming. it is not my fault if another customer moves something. You have people on the floor doing merchandise, especially the clearance stuff! So I start giving a hypothetical example of scop to CS....If something is supposed to cost $2 and rings up as $5 then it would be Scanning code of practice right? (can't use abbreivations with them). She agrees and just them the head cashier comes up and says just give it to her at $21.99. I moved the sign too. They agree to give it to me for that price but not the scop. Employee says, you can't have it free though...I agree as I am now running late for DS1 swimming lessons and having a 5 year old and 2 year old waiting at CS was starting to get a little crazy. i did get my 10% though at least...
anyhow, is it my fault that a diff customer moved the diapers there and there was a sign for diapers on clearance too!!! (there were apparently select diapers on clearance).
p.s. on a diff note, went to WM to exchange a label maker that I had a previous scop on rang up as $35, was supposed to cost $29 ...got the $10 off and the CS told me that you can only get scop if it is under $10 and I shouldn't have gotten it...oh brother....This thread is currently associated with: SafewayLF: kashi from websaver and 50 cents any cereal printout

I always check the sale sign and make sure that it is the right item sitting in front of it. If another customer puts the item in the wrong place then I wouldn't expect to get a deal on it and I certainly wouldn't expect to get the SCOP. There have been so many times that I thought I was getting an amazing deal on something only to discover that the item is simply not in the right spot. I think you were very lucky to get the sale price with an extra discount on it.

I try to check what and where the product and signs are. If it looks too good to be true it probably is.
Edit* If the employee said so. Definitely haul them onto the carpet err grocery conveyor belt.Last edited by nicolthepickle; Wed, Jul 3rd, 2013 at 06:50 PM.
It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.

things get dumped in the wrong spot all the time, it happens.
Many times I have been looking at clearance items, and other people have used the clearance shelf as a dumping ground for things they didn't want.
If the store hasn't actually made a mistake, then they shouldn't actually be expected to honor scop.In 2020 I had 100 FREE Grocery pickups! Subscribe to PC Optimum Insiders & get 25,000 PC Optimum pts

that's the thing-huggies diapers were on clearance. there were other boxes in the pile. The sign said huggies diapers. Someone (could've been employee even) put this particular box there, with the other huggies diapers. They were all the same size box. I just chose this one cause of the size. I still don't know if it was in fact to be on clearance or just rang up wrong or what. The cashier's reason was it was put in the wrong place.

^ in the end what can you really do? It is so hard to prove anything concrete.

So many times, I've been told that "oh, someone probably put it in the wrong place" only to go back and find that the signage and UPC for the sale/clearance price actually specified that item. It's too easy for them to dismiss it instead of actually investigating. Of course, I've also had price checkers not really check... until I go with them. Once, at Wal-Mart, there was a sale on Fructis on a middle of the aisle display, and I noticed my favourite product was on the sale shelf (it's not usually more expensive than the rest of the line), grouped with a lot more of that particular product. When I was overcharged and went to customer service, I was told that the sale was not on that product. How was I supposed to know when it was on a shelf with a big sign over it, along with all the other products in that brand and many more bottles of that product? "Oh, another customer just left it there." THAT much of the product?

If I saw it under the sign and checked with an employee.. I would expect the sale price and the $10 scop .. I would be annoyed too
Be sure to click like and post a brag if you get the deal.. It makes my day!!! Flattery may just get you more deals
Be sure to double check your flyer, points and cashback offers~ YMMV

It was probably another customer that dropped them there after realizing that there were other diapers cheaper.
I can understand your frustration but floor staff can not possibly keep up with all the crap people dump everywhere. Especially at the clearance sections.

I agree with both Minou and CrazyQT. I have also been told that another must have misplaced an item when there were several (and i mean dozens) of that same product in that section, so it makes me wonder. And i also check the UPCs if they are available. Since an employee actually told pamjcoupon that the item was on clearance, the store should be expected to honour the clearance price (not that i am blaming the employee--it is a very difficult job and things get messy and confusing).
Having said that, i also find it annoying when people dump their unwanted items in places where they could be confused for a similar item. I wish people would either put things back in their proper places, give the stuff to a cashier, or leave it with unrelated items so it is clear that they do not belong in that place. I feel bad for the employees because people can be absolute slobs in stores and these employees already have a lt to do. They don't necessarily have time to find misplaced items and put them back in their proper places.
