We've all been there at one time or another, when the driver in front of you just isn't moving fast enough, or you just need to feel the wind and watch the scenery whip on by.
Do you have a lead foot, and when was the last time you were ticketed for speeding?
Have you talked your way out of a ticket? How?

Last time I got a speeding ticket was in Ontario actually 23 years ago. They have a low tolerance there. I think I was going 105 in a 90 zone. Here they don't ticket you unless you are 120+ in a 100 zone. That being said I don't speed anymore since i had my kids lol. I usually cruise at 110 on the hwy for gas consumption's sake.

Not anymore, but back in the day I did - single, in my 20s, Mustang... tons of highway driving.
Don't, and never did, speed in the city.
I've only gotten two speeding tickets in 36 years of driving.
Hm... last one was like 1984 I think, on way back from Edmonton, didn't slow down enough soon enough from highway speed going through a small town - from 100 to 50, I think I was going 65 or so.
As for talking my way out of a ticket - uh, they weren't speeding tickets...

I used to have a lead foot back in the UK where the max speed on highway is 70mph (112 kmph) and a lot of drivers would drive up to 128 kmph. I once I was driving and I didn't realise I went to 144 kmph. Thankfully no cops or speed cameras, and only a 1 time thing
I don't think this will ever happen now that I'm in Canada and I haven't driven since 2008. I don't miss it at all
I prefer to be in the passenger seat now!

Yes and no. I have never had a speeding ticket in 12 years of driving, but I was pulled over when I was 17 for doing 72 in a 50 zone. I got a stern talking to and my friend in the car said I went "as white as a sheet" because I was driving my parents car and I was concerned about how tickets worked (i.e. how a parking ticket is for the vehicle not the person necessarily... hey, I was a young, naive kid).
I will say that I generally do 10 km or so over the speed limit, not intentionally. Honestly, my car (VW) is so peppy that I feel like I'm going much slower than I am. On long desolate highway drives I've been known to catch myself at WAY higher than that, unintentionally. But I hate cruise-control.

No speeding tickets here and I've never even been pulled over, but I DEFINITELY have an occasional lead foot.

I'm a slow driver... I am that guy who drives 98 when it says 100. This works in Saskatchewan just fine.
But I remember I spent the night in Burlington, Ontario then drove to Toronto the next afternoon, driving a bit below the speed limit was the worst thing those drivers ever saw! I remember getting tailgaited by a mini school bus!!
The horror I inflicted on these people lasted all the way to Oshawa then it was fine.Last edited by vesper; Wed, Jul 10th, 2013 at 02:33 PM.

First car was a mustang. Not the Boss Mustang. But the cheaper version. The "Mousetang". In red of course.
Raced to my Saturday part time job. On the 401. Mr Police Man gave me a ticket. First and last ticket - I was so embarrassed.Last edited by Shwa Girl; Wed, Jul 10th, 2013 at 08:33 PM.

The last ticket that I legitimately deserved was when I was a new driver and passed an unmarked police car on the highway. Since then I've only rarely gone more than 10k over the limit and never more than 20 (on the highway). I did get one more speeding ticket a few years ago though. It was in a speed trap at the bottom of a hill in a 50 zone right after coming off of the 417. I'm still kind of bitter about that one.

I've gotta admit, I've got a bit of a lead foot... BUT, when you live in the middle of nowhere, these highways get really long and boring! So you gotta just power through them. A 450 km drive (one way...) to go visit family up north is really boring if you only do the speed limit.
Never got a ticket yet, though!
