I'm fixing up my house so I can sell it. It's bitter sweet. I don't really want to move but it's nice to see the house finally looking how I've always wanted it, even if I only get to enjoy it for a bit longer. When my ex and I bought this house 21 years ago we said there were a few things we were going to do to it right away. Since it was built in the 70's, it still had some 70's decor. The kitchen and bathroom floor, the color of the toilets and bathroom sinks, the kitchen cupboards and countertops. The deck was designed terribly and was rotten. Well after we moved in every time I asked if we could change one of these things he always said we can't afford it right now. I figured he knew what he was talking about so I never questioned how much these things would cost. When we split up 8 years ago not one of these things had been done yet. I did the deck first He was right about that one, cost a small fortune but was worth it. Being a single mom I couldn't afford to do the others (so I thought). I took out a loan to get these things done before selling it and have been amazed at the prices. I've been thinking thousands and they've cost hundreds. Under $600 to do the kitchen and both bathroom floors, installed. If I had known this years ago I would have done it then! Counter tops are a lot cheaper then I was thinking too. Why oh why did I not ever go and find out the prices so I could of said "It's only this much, we can afford that!"? It is costing me a lot because I'm doing so much at once but I could have done a little here and there over the years. The only good thing is it will all be new and up to date now for selling it. But it would have been nice to be able to enjoy an improved house a little longer. I'm actually secretly hoping it doesn't sell too fast! lol I've got to learn to look into things for myself and not just go by what someone else tells me. And now that I know the prices, I will not wait so long to do improvements to my new home.

Hon, I watch as many reno shows as there are on tv, and for the ones that go up for sale, that's what so many homeowners say: 'now I don't want to move!'...but good for you for getting it all done and for so little relative cost! And yes, I hope you can just enjoy it for a while, but that it does sell....YOU ARE WOMAN!!!

HGTV has been my favorite channel for years. I have so many ideas in my head that I'd love to do. Hopefully at my new place I can start doing some. I've also been teaching myself how to do these things and am getting pretty good at home renos. I actually enjoy doing home repairs and such. I'm refinishing my kitchen cupboards right now.
