When I am around people, I resist my smartphone. I find it rude to sit there texting and browsing when there are nice friendly people with me I should be spending time with.

I agree Smartphone's, technology has changed some things with children and adults. I have a smartphone. In fact I don't have a data plan. Wifi is so readily available now.
As others have said, you see families, friends at restaurants, malls etc, texting each other or other people while sitting at a table, bench etc. Little to no conversation. I think it's sad. I find it more enjoyable to speak to someone when their in front of me. You are able to see, experience a person's emotions... happiness, excitement, sadness, anger. Using smiley's etc with your text is not the same in my opinion.
I've seen plenty of people walk into parked cars, doors walking, looking down, and texting.
I do text and it's handy at times. However when I'm with someone.. eating out, at a park, at someone's residence etc, the cell phone is in my purse and it's left there.. If I'm expecting an important call or text and it rings or vibrates, I may excuse myself and take the call or text. The same if I need to make an important call. Plus having voice mail is handy.Last edited by toban; Thu, Sep 12th, 2013 at 08:46 PM.
