Well, maybe not a year, but for six months anyway!
I was at my local breakfast place recently, and noticed that their bench cushions are cracked and ripped. I mentioned it to the waitress, who told me that a lot of people are complaining about it. Just then one of the owners came out as I was telling the waitress how my grandson would rather go there for breakfast than have a Happy Meal at McDonalds and play in the Play Place. We got talking about the cushions, and the owner said he's been trying to get someone to do the cushions, but the quotes he got are far too high, like $40 a cushion. He said they already had the material, he just needed the labour! I told him that I would make him a deal. I would recover his cushions in exchange for a $20 gift certificate for each cushion done. He provides the material, and I provide the labour. There are about 26 cushions, so for the next six months I can get 26 gift certificates and our family can go out for breakfast once a week for free! I started doing the cushions, and all I do is cut off the old material, cut out three pieces of material and sew them together, and then use an electric staple gun to staple the new material on. It takes me about 45 minutes to do each cushion, so I figure I'm making over $26 an hour, and no tax to be paid! It's a win, win situation! They're happy because all it's costing them is a few eggs, bacon and toast, etc. every week.
