Long Distance Moving

Well, my Mom and I were looking at moving, and i've always wanted to go south so we were checking out Sarnia.

Anyone have any tips on long distance moves? I know i'm a military brat and moved TONNES in my young days, but I really don't remember any of it.

We're thinking of my mom driving the truck, and I driving her car w/ Sparky.

P.S you guys are the first that know!!! It'll be next year or early 2013

Not from Sarnia myself -- i'm about 40 mins. east on the 402 from Sarnia. It's not too bad of a distance to move though. We did a similar move (London to Ottawa) and 2 years later moved back to London again. lol.

Leave early (9am) and haul it straight on through; it takes about 6 1/2 hours (7 1/2 if you're going to Sarnia). Just take the major highways: 401 and 402. If you decide to take a scenic route, head west on highway 7. That's a pretty route but painfully slower than 401/402.

cheapest is to rent the truck yourself and drive it there[if you want to do it yourself and save some $$], moving from one end of the province to the other is kinda pricey

I live in Chatham - it's nice here and costs are much lower than Sarnia - less snow - beautiful climate, really - I'm not sure where you will look for employment but there are several types of opportunities here.

Some parts of Sarnia are beautiful - some others suffer from the air pollution coming from the chemical plants. - Sarnia has high rates of some diseases related to air pollution - sorry to have to say.

It may not be your choice but it's ours. It's actually not our only choice, but one of them, the other one isn't too far from Sarnia.

How far do you mean by long distance?

I moved from Halifax, NS, to Alliston, Ont and then back to Halifax, NS. It's only about a 23 hr drive.

We moved there and back for an 8 month internship. We moved by whatever fit in our car stayed, and whatever didn't we stored or we sold and gave way.

I've also done 8 hr away moving, between two provinces. Pretty well same thing.

I've just recently done a 6 hr move between provinces. For the first time in about the 10 times I've moved we had movers. It was nice not to have to sell off our stuff.

I can give you hints to moving, although I've never moved really far, the farthest was from Nova Scotia to ontario.

I'm in Belle River, just before Windsor. The area down here is pretty nice and you couldn't ask for better weather. Not much snow in winter (or so they say around here).
We do the drive to and from Ottawa a few times a year (actually coming next weekend) and it's about 7 hrs straight through at 110km/hr. We were taking the 407 through Toronto but the cost wasn't worth the extra 20min. so now we just go on the 401. You may need to rent the truck for 2 days -1 to drive and 1 to unload.

Wow!! It's about a 6.5-7.5 hour drive I suppose. We have a lot of stuff though, like just going to the cottage everything in our car barely fits. (Big car too, Saturn Aura) so i'm thinking a truck/mover would be a good idea. My Mom likes driving U-Hauls, but i'm not into packing & unpacking so maybe thats where movers come in.

We were also thinking Quebec somewhere. But really it's just a 'we're going to move, now where do we do it'

I like Windsor because it's a small city but has everything you need and want and if you want more you just hop over the border

We (4 of us) moved from Ontario to Alberta. And along the way, we saw Mt. Rushmore and Badlands in South Dakota.
