I went wondering down the driveway( steep long gravel driveway with two S bends) which is forested on either side, and came face to face with a bear! I could nearly touch him.

I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I froze and screamed. Dumb I know but he took off into the bush. I thought I was going to faint...

Went back to the house and then DROVE to the mail box...

I hadn't realized they were around yet, otherwise I would bring my noise makers with for the walk.. Guess I will now until November..

So folks the bears are back.

WHAT! OHhhhhh that is so scary. When we went camping last week there were bears in our site while we were sleeping (stupid BIL left their hotdog buns and chips on the table overnight grrr) and that was terrifying.. I can't imagine seeing them in my drive way!!! What part of BC do you live in?

Oh gosh that is scary! I'm glad the bear ran off.

The wild berry crops in my Province are not abundant due to hot, dry weather. There has been problems with bears in cottage country searching for food.

There was a bear close to my kids school last year. Parts of the playground were closed.

That would scare anyone ..... We have them around here ( northern NB ) I always take a dog with me when I walk through the trails, or pick berries. They are usually more frightened of us ... Unless it's a Mamma bear with cubs :O Happy you Drove to the mailbox Holly, and I hope it was a good mail day for you

I've never actually seen a bear around me, but I've been told by other people on my road that they are around... I have personally heard moose calls, but I can't swear they weren't made by a hunter or something.

I always bring my dog with me when I walk anywhere on my property!

Thank God you scared it off!
The wildlife is getting more urbanized all the time, and there have been so many awful news bulletins about animal attacks this year.

The bear is telling all her friends "OMG this woman came outta nowhere!!! I almost touched her! Luckily she didn't have any kids or dogs with her - those women get so protective!!!"
We have bears cruising through all over. They smell. If you're downwind, you can smell them coming!

Holly, you were one lucky lady today, that the bear didn't have cubs! Hope it was just passing by and that you scared it enough that it won't cross your drive for awhile.

Met a bear on my walking trail in the back 40 last year. My dog scared it and it ran off. I kinda felt sorry for him. . but he was good looking and healthy. We have lots of wooded area behind us. I figure we're bound to cross paths sooner or later. . .but it's true. They don't want to see you any more then you want ot see them. . . .
