Not sure if this is the right forum to post this, but I was wondering if Costco ever sells their memberships at a reduced price. Do memberships ever "go on sale"?

Thanks! This thread is currently associated with: Costco

Hmm....
- they do go "up" every few years.
- In BC, they allowed you to renew early to avoid the HST a few years back
- I remember seeing a few years ago where certain union and employers could get a reduced membership for new members
- does one of those CashBack Amex cards count???

They also have the "Refer a Friend" offer where both of you get a $10 Costco cash card (each).

If you want to shop at Costco and skip the membership fee, go to Costco with a friend who has a membership card and buy a gift card, then use the gift card to buy merchandise. When it's time to pay, the cashier has to get the supervisor to authorize the transaction, but it's not that big of a deal. Oh, and they'll try to sell you a membership too.
This works well if you don't rely shopping at Costco very much, or you want to try it out to determine if a membership is worth it.
And of course, if you want to buy prescriptions, they have to sell it to you even without a membership card.

Thanks guys. I was hoping to cheap out on a membership.
I like the products they sell but it's hard to decide if $55 is worth it!

yes, but you will have to get a guess pass at the customer service before entering the store. When it's time to pay the cashier will need to get the manager over to authorize the transaction. It's quite a hassle - line up to get the pass, then more waiting and line up trying to pay.
