So on Monday I went into the city because I had to get some stuff organised for college and decided to stop at WM and pick up a few things. The first WM I went to was awful, it had almost nothing I was looking for. Except the Gilette.
I ended up picking up x21 Trial Size Gillette so I go to the cash and the cashier I went to had no idea what to do with a coupon. She kept telling me I couldnt use it because it said "one coupon per purchase" I explained that I could because I wasnt stacking them, still she wasnt sure so she went asked another cashier and came back still confused. So she let the cashier, who was a guy cash me out. Little did I know I was only allowed to use 6 of the same coupon at a time, so I only came out with x18 Gillette. But he was very nice and he couponed too which I thought was really cool cause you dont see too many guys couponing!
x18 Gillette
Total: $22.86
OOP: 3.17 (I had to get a $5 GC, otherwise my total would have been -$1.19)
Anyways not happy with my purchases there and with alot more things left to get on my list we went to another WM, which was so much better. They had A BUNCH of sales, and even though the didnt have everything I wanted the had enough.
I got;
x15 Packs of Paper .25 each
x9 Aquifina + Vitamins Water 1.00 C- B2G1 Free
x1 Neutrogina 7.97 - no coupon but I needed it
x1 Always 36pk - FPC = FREE
x3 Gillette c $5 WUB3 = +1.19
x1 People Mag (It had a story about Ashley&JP I needed it okay!)
x7 Resolve 2.00 C - 1.00 = 1.00 each - Due to the 6 coupon limit I actually got one of my friends to get one for me!
x1 Really Cute Pencil Case 3.97
Total: 52.70
OOP: 36.48
Now at the checkout that was a total different story. Monday just totally wasnt my day with cashiers. I have NEVER had problems with any of them, so I guess it was bound to happen sometime. Anyways, I probably picked the STUPIDEST cashier who spoke very little english, if any at all. Anyways, first of all she had no idea about coupons. So I tried to walk her through it. I had placed all my coupons with my products because I find it easier that way. First we had the water, and so I told her it was B2G1 Free, and she just kindof stood there unsure of what to do. She finally figured it out. Then onto my gillette coupon. First off she said I couldnt use it because it wasnt the right product. I pointed out it said ANY Gillette, and showed her the canisters. While I was arguing with her my friend had to go get another pencil case because there was no scanning tag on the one I had. When she gets back the girl scans my pencil case in and instead of taking off the $5 for my Gillette coupon she makes my pencil case $5! I let it go at that point because she was totally incapable of doing anything. She finally finished checking me out and I paid her what she said I owed her. Then I looked at my reciept. Well off to customer service I went. I told them what she did with my pencil case and so after a while and alot of questions they fixed it and gave me a refund. Then on the way home I noticed she only put in 3 of my resolve coupons instead of the 6. I was very mad. I called the WM and asked them if they could do anything about it, sadly they cant because I wouldnt be back for a while. I was very very unhappy with the Cashier and believe she should be fired. I mean who hires someone who doesnt even speak english. Anyways, sorry if that is a bit critical it is just my opinion.

I totally agree with you. Some cashiers dont have a clue and I think that falls on the training. really sucks to see that she didnt even put in your resolve coupons.

Bai-Leigh,
as soon as you see that a cashier is not understanding the order or coupons, if you can, reload your purchases in your cart and high tail it to another cashier.
There has got to be at least one good one on shift.
You don't need to put up with poor customer service.
Sorry about your experience.

-ColleenMGorecki - I was actually hoping to get a part time job at WM, that way I could be there most of the time and not have to make special trips, as well as teach staff and see how many people actually use coupons (:

Bah! I definitely agree that cashiers should be trained with coupons. I am a cashier myself but because I'm also a couponer, I know the drill, lol. I must admit, I don't think even my management knows the *proper* way to submit a coupon either... It's baffling. On a side note, I am deeply loved by the couponers in my end of town, and they don't shop unless they know I'm working that day.

i agree that some cashiers and customer service people are so stupid. sucks that we have to put up with them. i had one try to tell me that the $5 ice cream coupon from the cereal boxes could only be used on general mills ice cream! what?! also, walmart's "great value" brand isn't "any" brand, it's walmart brand

I'm sorry your shopping trips didn't go as planned but, I wouldn't want to be in that cashier's shoes. First, not having been trained properly, and trying to hold a job while learning a new language. I sympathize with her. I never thought that the process of learning = "stupid"
. That's akin to being put in a auto body shop in a foreign country and told to work without having any formal training and being called stupid for not knowing what to do. Perhaps something to think about

Retailers just dont spend the bucks on full training... they kinda get a crash course and then its learn as you go. Anyone with any common sense should be able to get through a transaction, even if they had crappy training... if they can read then a coupon should not be a problem!!

try moving to a completely foreign country, learning a new language while not being able to find a good job due to lack of language skills, and then be judged by snotty customers.
perhaps she could have had better training, but that is not her fault. If you could see it was going to be hard to use coupons with her, pack up and move to a different cashier. There really is no need to call her "stupid"
Might I suggest an International Studies or Ethics course in college?

you can b*itch at me all you want that is my opinion and nothing will change my mind. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if yours is different that is fine. But dont start judging me and telling me to take an ethics class because our opinions differ.
