Russia issues arrest warrant on Crimean Tatar leader for ‘encroaching on its territory’

After invading and annexing Crimea and banning Crimean Tatar leader Refat Chubarov from his homeland, Russia now wants to remand him in custody – after ‘extraditing’ him, of course. It accuses him of – wait for it – “encroaching on Russia’s territorial integrity” by insisting that Crimea is Ukraine.



Refat Chubarov is the Head of the Mejlis, or Crimean Tatar representative assembly, an elective body which Russia is now threatening to ban as ‘extremist’.

ICRC facilitates release and transfer of conflict-related detainees


Kiev / Lugansk (ICRC) – Today, 20 detainees held in connection with the conflict in Ukraine were released with the participation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and transferred back to their places of origin.

The handover took place near the town of Schastie, at the line which divides government-controlled territory and opposition-controlled territory. The operation was organized in accordance with the provisions of the Minsk agreement.

This is the first time that the ICRC has participated in the release and transfer of detainees held in relation to the conflict in Ukraine. Acting as a neutral intermediary and in accordance with its mandate, the ICRC facilitated the release and transfer in consultation with all parties.

During the past 24 hours, Russian-terrorist troops opened fire several times at the front line (once from AGS-17 grenade launchers, once from 82 mm mortars, and on multiple occasions, from small arms).

Veseliy and Spartak. Ukrainian positions near the Donetsk circular highway (near Opytne) were shelled, as well as advanced positions near Pisky. Small arms fire and several shots from 82 mm mortars in the direction of Ukrainian advanced positions were also recorded in the area of Starohnativka (the projectiles landed in the neutral zone).
Unaimed volleys of small-arms fire were recorded in the vicinity of Novoluhanske and Zaitseve. Militant armored vehicles (several BTR-80 APCs) were seen moving along the front line during the firing.
Sniper attacks on ATO forces’ positions were renewed in the areas near Mar’inka, northeast of Shumy, south of Popasna, near Shchastya, and on the stretch between Shyrokyne and Zaichenko.
