As long as you use it once in a 12 month period your points are safe. You do not have to redeem once in a 12 month period. I think that's fair.

Just buy $1 stuff once a year to keep it active.

That reminds me-Feb 21 is the date 2000 Optimum points are set to appear for updating profile last month. Just checked the e-mail as I thought it was Feb. 14.

Yes, that is what a loyalty program means. It means if you as the customer have loyalty to a store/brand, it will reward you for the loyalty.

OP, it sucks to lose the points. It is pretty much standard with loyalty programs for a period of inactivity to cause that. Some programs (like Aeroplan) will give you a warning a month or two before the date it they are to expiry, but I think that most don't.

Airmiles expire 5 years after you earn them and I think the Husky card does the same thing.

I had around 80,000 HBC points and lost them all because I hadn't used my card in a year. They had no problem sending me emails with my balance every month, but never a warning that my points would disappear because of inactivity. Funny thing, I never bothered to shop at an HBC store again after that!

I very surprise about HBC points,i haven't shopped at Zellers since they closed 2 years ago, i had forgotten that i even had points on my card.I went to the web site and was able to get a $100 GC.

Sorry that happened to you OP. Happened to me too, but I didn't have a lot of points on it at the time (mostly rinky dinky points from pop and snacks when I was away at university)

Sears points expire if you have regular Sears store card but don't expire if you have a Sears MC
