$5000 cash thrown in a fire!

This radio station in my town is doing some contest where people can vote, your options are:

Put $5,000 cash into someone's bank account OR
BURN IT!

54% of people voted to BURN IT! What is wrong with people?

Next they're doing $10,000...and it really bothers me that people would rather see it be burnt then someone benefit from it. I wish more people thought through their actions, that money could have really helped someone who needed it but instead it will be wasted. I vote to put it in someone's bank account!

UPDATE ** I just watched the video of them burning the money. It was sad. HOWEVER I do NOT blame the radio station, it is the voter's faults! It is all the sick people who voted for them to burn it that caused this. The radio station also had a really good point, enormous amounts of money gets spent on marketing, $5,000 is nothing. It is all the people that voted to burn this that sickens me.

I would rather give 5000$ (to most people anyway) than burn it and we don't even have anywhere near 5000$. that is crazy and selfish... now if the option was to give it to my neighbor upstairs that makes tonnes of noise and complains about any noise my kids make (even when its not quiet time.) or burn it I would definitely burn it.
