That would be nice. But I don't think she would wake up that early, and besides I already clean my room!

    My best advice:

    1. Don't risk life or limbs for anything hard to reach.
    2. Wear running shoes

It's a lot of fun, just keep yourself safe!

This just cracks me up, lol. Wish I could whip hockey pucks at my brother too, lol.

As others have said, make sure your mom knows the route you'll take, use gloves, bring a bag, cell phone in case of emergency. Don't forget to keep a close eye on your little brother too (make sure he stays right by you). As for neighbors coming out/noticing you...just be honest and respectful and you shouldn't have any problems.

I hope there are the short open recycling boxes in your area and not the bins (I don't recommend you climb into nor reach for anything you can't clearly see). Good luck and let us know how you did!

I know when I go on my walks, I'm paranoid of people watching me; so I'm constantly looking around. As I search I'm thinking "doo doo doo, I'm not *shoves a really noisy bottle around* stealing your recycling.." Bahahah, I laugh now that I think about it.

Gloves or travel size hand sanitizer and tissues, to quell the ick factor and any germs.

I'd say try for 6am (dogs in houses might bark but not too much car traffic is around; 7am many cars start to come out) but stay off the road when the sun is low and bright. Drivers might not see you when driving up and you could get clipped-almost happened to me on a walk to get the paper last week if I had not stepped into a driveway...

I purchased from dollarama one of those rope key holder thingys that you wear around your neck... and attached a small flashlight to it. It shines perfectly in the recycle bin when I'm looking in it and allows for both my hands to be free. Also there is LED lights that you can buy that clip to your baseball cap. I keep them on at all times for safety.

Morning is a nice time to go.. my neighbour says "hi, we are recycling your recycling!" with a huge grin.. she is an extrovert and makes friends along the way.

Anytime I recycle I make sure to leave the stuff all tidy as I found it and I don't peek in the bin if I can see personal papers that arent shredded. I just keep going..

today I stopped at a bin that had 2 cereal boxes in it with $5 Gas card on each !! holy cow..

Today I asked a lady at a corner store if I could peek in the paper bin for newspapers.. she was sooo funny.. 'you're not climbing in are you?" noo.. 'omg don't fallin' lolllll sad thing was when I got to the bin.. nice bundle of papers but further down I could see a wad of Toronto ones that had the insert anddddddd the egg coupon.. I so wanted to stand on that little ledge and try to reach them.. but I left them there all alone with no one to take them home, sigh..

I find the teens just say sure, its just trash , help yourself.. this lady was olddd like me and more cautious lol....

Recycle walks are great. But please make sure you know the city bylaws before you go digging in the recycling. We aren't allowed to sift through our recycling, but it isn't specific to items on top which is all I take. Know your laws so there won't be trouble down the road.

Also, many of the other ideas are great here. Be as polite as you can and skip the bins with information that may or may not be personal. Daytime is always safest!

Good luck and let us know how it went!

Hey everybody, unfortunately I did not end up going on the recycle walk because my brother bailed out on me, and I had to go to Canada's Wonderland the next day... I am hoping to go next week sometime, but since school is starting I am not sure if I can. I should be able to considering I am in Grade 8 and do not go to bed early!! lol

But I found 5.00 dollars in beer bottles and 8 icoke pins, so it's worth it!
The two of you have brought the average age on SC down quite a bit
