I give them credit for trying to bring fresh produce into SDM. That was another main reason why I only go there for cheap eggs, and very little else. They have nothing but processed foods on the shelves. I know it is a " drug store " so I should not expect much, but with all their Optimum Promos and points offers, it sure would be nice to us the points on fresh foods.

My Shoppers has sold produce (bananas, potatoes, onions, oranges, apples) and prepared meals (sandwiches, sushi, pasta salad)for at least two years.

Sounds like Weston has big plans for screwing up my favourite store.

Before Bloblaw bought Shoppers, saw bananas and packaged salads in some SDM stores in Ontario. Some had a lunch tray in the fridge bunker with grapes+cheese+melba toast+boiled egg.

    Interesting.

Most of the Shoppers in my area are just too small to handle that sort of thing (there is only 1 in 4 that has a large grocery section). Will be interesting to see how it turns out. I imagine it will still be cheaper to buy fresh things at my local RCSS (which PMs) - but I do like the option.

Would love ours to have fruit and produce, more bakery selection, not hot meals.

I don't know why, but I just can't buy fresh foods at a department store or grocery store. Meat and produce at Walmart or Shoppers is just weird to me. I sometimes buy cheese, yogurt at SDM, but a chicken? No, not so much.

Bakery options are great. There is one SDM around here that has an entire section for fresh bread from the Italian bakery (not just Dempsters stuff). It's my fave SDM to go to

I was going to say there are a few that do, but we are likely thinking the same store

Seeing as they make most of their money on fragrances/cosmetics, I don't get why they'd do this....and most often they have to clear food items off with manager's stickers.
