As you well know, we live in times of much social and political conflict, which is often the result of different ethnic or religious groups that do not see things eye-to-eye. These conflicts not only have long-lasting effects at national or political levels, but can also have a variety of both short-term and long-lasting effects on the mental health of individuals who are members of the conflicting groups—even if those individuals themselves are not directly involved in the conflict.

The current study seeks to identify the psychological and social effects of how people deal with stressful life events in terms of both religious and non-religious coping styles, as well as the potential impacts of stressful group experiences on individual well-being. It also aims to identify other risk and resiliency factors that either contribute to or protect against poor mental health outcomes. We hope that you will choose to complete this study; however, it is completely up to you whether you want to continue or stop at any point. Your answers will remain completely confidential and you will in no way be identified as a participant in the study.

In appreciation of your time, we will mail you a $10 gift certificate upon your completion of the study. At the end of the study, you will be given the option of choosing between gift certificates from Tim Hortons, HMV, Famous Players, Chapters/Indigo, or Second Cup.
