Did you apply for it when you filed your return ?

Just like the HST/GST qtrly return you have to apply for it every yr when you file your return..they won't give it to you automatically even if you qualify

Anyways log into your My Account on CRA ( if you have registered ) ..it will show under the OEPTC headline how much you are going to get on July 27 & future payments .

Make sure you receive all these credits ...& in case you don't get them ( if you qualify ) call them & find out why ?

My bro didn't receive a couple of credits ( even though he qualified for them ) ..so he called CRA up & they rectified it

So don't lose these credits just by default or through inaction ..ofcourse you have to be eligible for them in the first place ..but I know lot of people who are eligible but don't bother applying or don't bother checking if the credit was received or not for some reason

Anyone know a phone # that actual gets you to an agent and not an automated person?? I have been trying # after # to contact someone - I have 3 numbers that go to a busy single & the rest go to an automated person!!!!! the online calculators say we should be getting some of these credits but we have not received any this year (although we did last year & income only went up about $3,000)

Use the Tax Calculator to see how much OEPTC you will be getting in 4 installments .

    How much will I receive?

Qualifying non-senior single people and families can receive up to $900 for 2010 – up to $700 in property tax relief and up to $200 in relief for the sales tax on energy.

Qualifying seniors, 65 years of age or older on December 31, can receive up to $1,025 for 2010 – up to $825 in property tax relief and up to $200 in relief for the sales tax on energy.

How is the amount I get calculated?

The amount you receive is based on your adjusted net income and the amount of rent or property tax you paid for your principal residence for 2010.

It will be reduced if your adjusted family net income is higher than certain amounts, depending on your family type: the credit will be reduced by two per cent of any income over $20,000 for single non-seniors, $25,000 for single seniors and non-senior families, including single parents, and $30,000 for senior couples.

    For example, for a single senior with income of $27,000, the maximum credit will be $1,025 − [0.02 × ($27,000 − $25,000)] = $985.

Use the Ontario Tax Credit Calculator to calculate the amount you may be eligible to receive.

    Quick question!

I hope some one from BC or experienced this would give me a better idea on how to go abouts doing this.

Any who, my grandmother hasn't been recieving her HST/GST cheques. My dad wants me to go down to Service Canada (my office is in friggin Surrey *according to the website*, my dad said any branch works). It says on the website that an appointment MUST be made. As much as I want to go down there in person, I don't want to get turned away and be told to make an appointment. It's hard to juggle stuff like this when I have school and work.

I've got poor time management skills, and I didn't look up all this information until NOW. So I'm just gonna call in and see what can they do. Now, since my dear old grandma can't speak English (as much as I wished she did.) what are the chances of one of the agents willing to speak on her behalf?

I understand that it's a high security thing and seniors are usually targets of scams and they do have the right to refuse to speak with me.

Under no circumstances will they let you speak on her behalf without a written consent printed off on their website signed by her. They told me this when I called about my husbands stuff. They also have people who can speak to her in her language if needed, I believe.

CRA wants to talk to residents in English or French. And it is necessary to have a signed consent form by your grandmother in their hands first. Don't bother to make an office visit before that form gets to them.

Explain the consent to grandmother first and see if she wants you to be her representative. Tell your Dad that privacy rules mean that CRA won't tell you squat without the consent form. Funny how he is not handling the matter? Isn't he the son?
