I am in the process of packing slowly for a move in about 1 months time. I got quite a few boxes before but now that supply is being depleted and I can't find any decent boxes close by. I am looking for medium to large size boxes, a few small for books etc. I have been looking constantly on kijiji and at No Frills and even calling some of my local stores but so far no luck. The boxes that I got before were from someone giving them away, but now I find it hard to go to many stores and look with a toddler.

I don't want to pay for boxes but I think as time goes on and I want boxes so I can pack when I get time I may need to go that route.

    Just my little rant.

It doesn't say where you live, but if you're in Ontario, have you tried the LCBO? They were more than happy to give us a bunch of boxes (for free). Try talking to some of the people that are restocking next time you are in a grocery store (they'll know more than the customer service most likely).

I just moved a couple of weeks ago and spent ages accumulating enough boxes. The hardest ones to find are sturdy ones for the stockpile.
They have a decent amount at Chapters, and they're very sturdy (enough to hold books). Otherwise I just went recycle walking in a commercial street.

    Good luck!!

For small boxes for books I went to the liquor store. They have tons. I got a few at the grocery store from the produce workers. I talked to the shipping and receiving at my work and they saved boxes for me. I also invested in some rubbermaid totes since I'll be moving again in a year or two. So my advice would be to ask around to people you know.

Definitely check liquor stores. Also, on freecycle.

I would rather OP asked some staff that know her in stores than risk a dumpster/behind store visit with a toddler in tow. Perhaps recruit a friend or neighbour to score some boxes on your behalf if s/he has a vehicle?

Good idea about boxes from Chapters and LCBO! Would avoid produce boxes from grocery stores-the adhesive used in certain produce boxes will just add cleaning time to items that go into them.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will look at the LCBO, that will solve the problem for small boxes. Unfortunately the Chapters close to me closed. Will try asking the stock people when out and about.

My local No Frills has the toilet paper boxes but all the boxes have holes in the middle, which is frustrating because otherwise they are quiet good boxes. I am not sure why they even put these boxes up front for people to use with their groceries.

I`m going to second what ticul said-go to Pharmacy and ask for store manager to get boxes. I just remembered someone wanted to do the same on one of the days I was doing coupon promotion and the person got some boxes!

SDM gave me boxes one time. Hit up a store location you frequent and hopefully they will give you some.

Call your local M & M meat shop. They get weekly deliveries in very sturdy boxes. They usually put them in a recycling dumpster. If you ask they can tell you which day to come pick some up.

You can always call Zehrs bakery and ask them to save you some cookie boxes and baguette boxes, the cookie ones are small square and very sturdy and the bread ones are big long for odd items.
