I wanted to know a bit more about Ebates and was hoping a Smart Canuck could sort me out. I get the basic idea (shop through their site and you get rebates back depending on the store and how much you spend). I wanted to know what kind of Canadian stores they have, how the rebates work and if you have coupon codes (ie. discount code from say The Children's Place for 20% off) can you use that code as well as get rebate back from Ebates? I know that there are some really smart cookies in here that can help explain.
I'm not comfortable with shopping online too much but I am trying and if I can make /save a few $$ here and there the better!
Thanks a bunch! This thread is currently associated with: The Children's Place

It's easier than it sounds.
You log into ebates.ca.
Then you search for the store you want to buy from. Or you can browse by category of what you're looking for. It's a huge list
There is a red "shop now" button that tells you how much cash back that website is offering.
You click the red button and it opens up the store website in a new window.
The new window knows how much you spent
A few days later, ebates emails you to tell you that cash back appears in your ebates account.
They mail a cheque to you every few months once you reach $5
It works with coupon codes (Except Shop.ca which has disabled this). Let's say you are buying something for $100 but have a $20 coupon code. You will get cash back on the $80 you pay.
Come to the online shopping dark side. I sing the praises of online shopping because it's no more crowded malls (Gah! Yorkdale in Toronto) and no more missing sizes/colours/flavours (this is my problem every single time I go shopping)! Shipping is usually free after a certain amount. It's different for different websites. If you don't like your items, a lot of places will let you return it to the store instead of mailing it back. I like to buy from places where I can return without a hassle.
The Bay, Old Navy, Indigo, Walmart all have pretty good return policies from what I've found.
Hope that helpsLast edited by torontogal12; Wed, Dec 3rd, 2014 at 04:19 PM.
Apply every possible promo code to your cart, at every store that you visit (and get points for cash back on top of that?). It's sweet and easy with HONEY.

There is also a PayPal option to get your cashback through, that's what I do.

I'm slowly being lured to the dark side as well, lol. Thanks kiwis-mom for posting this question; I've been curious as well. And thanks torontogal12 for explaining it

Thanks for the info! I didn't know how exactly it works and there is not much info on their webpage (unless you register--which I don't like to do unless I know what is going on). Do you get lots of emails from them? I hate getting tons of emails from different sites, some seem to send something every day!

I keep a couple of separate free email accounts specifically for contacts I expect to get SPAM from. This keeps most of the SPAM out of my personal email account. One I use is:
http://www.myway.com
I also use:
http://www.mailinator.com
for sites I want to use one time only that require you to link through a response email to verify. Mailinator automatically deletes all emails in your account after 24 hours. Just don't put any personal info in anything you respond to as anyone can access anyone's mailinator inbox.

Just some additional information. The payout normally happens four times a year. If the amount you've earned is less than $5 it gets carried over to the next payout date.
Here is a little table I had made about when the payout happens. I have mine set to paypal and I get it a few days before the date shown below:
Purchases Made Between Big Fat Cheque Sent Jan 1-Mar 31 15-May Apr 1-June 30 15-Aug July 1-Sept 30 15-Nov Oct 1-Dec 31 15-Feb
