SnowFlakey I think it has always been bad, but I was just able to ignore it before I retired. So much tougher to do that now. Exercising our discipline muscles when the budget is stretched and we know better is the only way to beat these temptations.

I don't shop much but do tend to agree with you. I think part of the problem is there are so many avenues to push sales now. TV, radio, newspapers, and of course, social media. No matter where you go or what you do, you are exposed to it.
I tend to ignore it, if I want or need something, I will go out and look for it. Other than that, I just do not need it. The only exception might be a really really good deal on something I would buy sooner rather than later anyhow, like the Gillette deal on Wagjag the other day. I will use razors anyhow so I got it!Insurance Graduate Class of 2014

walkonby, my Christmas shopping was finished by December and i did a lot of it online. We loved going Christmas shopping and especially Boxing Day. The world would fall apart if i missed Boxing Day! But the past few years, with all those end of the world sales!, it really turned me off. And it seems to be getting worse. theweave3162 said it perfectly: too much pushing sales from all avenues.
Well, the Big Day is finally here! We are going to our son and d-i-l`s house for Christmas lunch and then we can relax and start planning for next Christmas! hahahahah Merry Christmas everyone.

Yep they're pushing sales earlier and earlier with each year. Usually they'll advertised Boxing Week sales by Dec 24th or so, but now it's one week before.

All these "sales" are pretty much noise to me. I've reached a point where I only buy things on an as needed basis, even if I have to pay the regular price at times. Much less stress, less money spent, less unwanted junk sitting at home gathering dust.
