Target employees get representation in court
Justice Geoffrey Morawetz approved a motion appointing seven Target employees in different departments and provinces to represent the 17,600 people who were employed by Target Canada when it filed for creditor protection on Jan. 15.
More than 8,000 of the employees are in Ontario, according to a court document.
More than 50 employees came forward to act as representatives, according to Sue Philpott, of Koskie Minsky LLP, the firm appointed to represent employees in the insolvency proceedings.
The Target employee representatives include Frederick Payette, a store facilities technician in Edmonton; Sylvie Gautier, a price accuracy team leader in Candiac, near Montreal; Jennifer Lindsay, a guest service team leader at the Cloverdale Mall store in Etobicoke; Catherine Bédard, an operations manager at the head office in Mississauga; Michael O’Neil, an executive team leader at the store in Dartmouth, N.S.; Alyssa Morin, a human resources team member at the Maple Ridge store in B.C. and Joshua Gordon, an executive team leader for human resources, at the Centerpoint store in Toronto.
The representatives can advocate on behalf of Target employees, instruct counsel and address the court, creating a unified voice for employees, according to court documents.
An opting-out process for employees who do not wish to be represented will be established, according to Philpott.

I noticed the pharmacists got another obstacle-Walmart has patient records from three Target pharmacies? Wow, this situation is getting more complicated.
I do hope the pharmacists manage to also get their professional college to get some kind of law changes so if pharmacists in Costco or other chains end up in a similar store closing, the pharmacist gets a say in what happens to the patient records.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

Target has three distribution centres: one in Calgary, AB (matches city where Walmart will open), one in Milton, ON and one out in Cornwall, ON (another Walmart location). Hmm...

Who knew that Target’s Canada closure could affect other Target workers in the US and elsewhere
Target Corp. is laying off 720 employees across its global operations as the retailer makes changes linked to its failed roll out in Canada.
The Minneapolis, Mn.-based company said it has told 550 workers in Minnesota they will be losing their jobs — with about 350 of those cuts effective immediately.
Another 170 staff members based at its technology centres in India will be “eliminated over time,” the company added.
“The majority of the remaining team members are needed through the closure of the Target Canada stores and their positions will be eliminated following the liquidation period,” Target spokeswoman Molly Snyder said in an emailed statement on Wednesday

Wow.
That's a fair complaint. I saw a picture on Instagram about someone disgruntled for being charged $2 more for diapers and the response from the employee.
She got the brush off from the employee went on an angry rant about it- ending it with "Good Riddance."
People really need to understand its liquidators changing the prices and target employees have no say. The only thing we can say is "Sorry, final sale"

Seems like Target's money problems started last year
On Tuesday[last November], Target announced it will be closing 11 U.S. stores, making a total of 19 closures in less than 12 months.
In the aftermath of last year’s monumental data breach of customer credit card information—not to mention years of underwhelming sales at some retail locations—Target decided to close eight stores in May, including two stores in the Las Vegas area and two stores in Ohio. This week, Target announced it will be closing 11 more stores in the U.S., including two Chicago-area locations and three Targets in Michigan.
The 11 stores will be shut down by February 1, 2015. “The decision to close a Target store is only made after careful consideration of the long-term financial performance of a particular location,” a company statement accompanying the announcement explained. “In most cases, a store is closed as a result of seeing several years of decreasing profitability,” a Target spokesperson added in an email to (Minneapolis) StarTribune.

What happens with patient records is ultimately up to the patient. The patient needs to be notified or at least attempted to be notified before or shortly after transferring records. If the patient does not want to go to the new pharmacist, they can instruct the successor (in this case, Walmart) to transfer the records to the pharmacist that they want.
Edit: I just realised that I should point out that this is the case for Ontario, but is likely the same in other provinces.Last edited by trishka; Mon, Feb 23rd, 2015 at 09:32 AM.

good news for the pharmacists case against Target Canada
Target Canada pharmacists claimed victory on Thursday after learning that $100,000 has been set aside to fund legal and financial advisory services for them as the failed discount retailer winds down operations.
Target Canada has also extended the deadline for pharmacy closures, giving more breathing room to franchisees who need to transfer customer files and move or dispose of inventory, including narcotics.
“This is a victory for patients across Canada and PFAC,” said president Dan Dimovksi of the Pharmacy Franchisee Association of Canada.
Ontario Superior Court Justice Geoffrey Morawetz appointed PFAC to represent the pharmacists; Sutts, Strosberg LLP as representative counsel; and BDO as financial advisor to the pharmacists.
The $100,000 for PFAC can be used to cover legal and financial services provided to date and going forward, but only on three topics: corresponding with regulators concerning the wind-down and relocation process; return of inventory; and participating in the claims process against Target Canada.
