David Wynn funeral in St. Albert to honour slain RCMP officer
Const. David Wynn, 42, shot while confronting suspect in a casino on Jan. 19
Wynn never regained consciousness after being shot in the head while confronting a man over a suspicious vehicle early on Jan.19 in a casino in St. Albert, a city just northwest of Edmonton.
The officer, who friends say moved from Nova Scotia to Alberta to pursue his "lifelong" dream of working for the RCMP, died in hospital four days after the shooting.
Wynn and another RCMP officer, Aux. Const. Derek Bond, were both shot after a routine licence plate check led to the confrontation. Bond was released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
Shawn Rehn, the man responsible for the shooting, was found dead several hours later in a rural home.
Wynn, who had three sons, volunteered at schools in St. Albert. He was popular among students at Keenooshayo Elementary School, where he was involved with the school’s D.A.R.E drug prevention program.

RCMP Assistant Commissioner Marianne Ryan, along with RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson were in attendance, as were Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Premier Jim Prentice along with St. Albert mayor Nolan Crouse.
Mona Wynn, Const. David Wynn’s sister, delivered the eulogy described her brother as an ordinary man with an extraordinary capacity to change the world around him. She encouraged mourners to live the way she said Wynn would want them to – to enjoy life, to contribute to the world and never hold a grudge.
“David would want us to forgive, he was a peaceful man, he didn’t have the time to even notice the reason for a grudge, much less hold one, he knew there were much better things to hold on to, so that’s what he did,” Wynn said.
“David would want us to find joy.”
Wynn said her brother’s organs and tissue were donated, and the family has learned they will help as many as 35 people.
Representing Wynn’s roots in eastern Canada and Alberta, The Rankin Family and Paul Brandt performed songs during the ceremony.

was such a lovely service, which really gave you
a sense of the man.
especially noticed the song about those with
ptsd, which i think david wynn co wrote, very memorable.
of course the loss of him is so very sad for his family,
(was very hard to see his wife and their youngest son)
friends, fellow officers and us.
may he rest in peace perhaps with a fishing poll and his dad
