I'm sending out a call for help from pictou county members (and anyone else who wants to help). I'm making gift baskets for a silent auction to raise funds to help the family of Amber Kirwan, the 19 year old girl who went missing after leaving a local pool hall on Thanksgiving weekend. The silent auction is to take place at the Whitetail in Westville On Oct 28.
Would you please please check your stockpiles to see if you have anything you can contribute to these baskets?
    Currently we are working on
    a grocery basket
    a christmas basket
    a preserve basket
    a personal care basket (female)
    a personal care basket (mens)
a household basket (containing air fresheners, candles etc
a second household basket containing cleaners, laundry soap etc
a pet basket - possibly one for a cat and one for a dog if I can get enough stuff- I have 10 days to put the baskets together

additionally we are sending out a plea for green ribbon- the color chosen to represent this, Ambers favorite color, please search your craft items. We have purchased every bit of green ribbon within 3 counties and we need more- we also need people willing to print off posters, donate tape, staples etc. If you have any items you can donate please message me for pick up or you can drop them off at the West End recreation centre on Lavinia street New Glasgow. They are also in need of volunteers to put up posters, as kids keep ripping them down (at least I hope its kids), make up donation cans, do up ribbons. Or please donate some time to the Balloon Works store this afternoon as they put messages of hope for Amber inside balloons to release later today

Any and all help would be so very much appreciated - if you know any members from New Glasgow and area who may not frequent this board please pass the message along to them

    Thanks you
    Lori

EDIT: they are sending the volunteers home due to the lack of supplies and posters. If you can help by printing off some posters please message me for a link to the poster

well, I have had better luck sending East then WEst or even to QC, but never send it back, then donate to anything else. Gonna see if I can round up a few things, and maybe a couple xtra gals.

thats a terrific idea! I currently have 42,600 points on my card - anything added to that could at least get me to the 50,000- I don't have a huge stockpile of coupons but I still have some P&G and some food coupons

they had to send the volunteers home because they are out of posters and ribbon and there is nothing for them to do
a local printer donated 7000 copies but they have all been used, I'm so upset with whoever has been destroying them

I've got enough mens product to make up a Gillette basket and an oldspice basket- I'm very open to suggestions on what could go in the baskets

I'm sadly lacking in pet items (I have a bag of Maribone and a dish of pedigree both for dogs)

I have some items for the womens basket but need shampoo, deoderant and lotions

I am sadly lacking in the food category, most of the food items I stockpile don't have the packaging - destroyed to get coupons/ labels - I do have coffee, sugar, a couple of boxes of K-dinner, Hamburger helper and BBQ sauce which are all still intact

I have jellies, jams and relish for the preserve basket but no pickles, and I'd like to add crackers/ tea cookies to this basket

I have some cleaners but no laundry products at all, I found a sense and spray but thats it for the candle/ airfreshener basket

Have you tried the local Kinsmen/Kinette and Lions clubs? I can't seem them not wanting to donate to help our own. They are ALL about local support.

no I haven't - I didn't think of them. I wonder if one of the other volunteers did? I'll have to ask. Someone from Florida just donated the cost of some flyers, i didn't think to ask how many. A volunteer just dropped off some items that were dropped at the centre, ladies deoderant, make up, oil of olay. since those were items I didn't have.....possibly someone from the board? (there were sample sizes too ;-) If so, thank you!

I just saw your note about Claire and Jamie - so, sooo, true - huge fan of that series for 20 years- a must read for anyone with a romantic spirit
