OK I DO have pickles for the preserve basket - I made over 300 jars of preserves, I'd totally forgotten making dill pickles until I opened the cupbord, so I'm set for that basket except for adding some crackers or tea cookies.

does anyone know where I can find the basket wrap that is big enough for these big baskets?

I am also making a basket that contains new "gift" items I guess. Some people have been dropping off things like wall decorations and picture frames - so I have to do something with them- maybe i should make the christmas basket into a christmas sleigh and add the gift items?

I'm use to making baskets as gifts, but not baskets designed to generate money. I'm winging it here, any suggestions?

I've seen BIG basket wrap at some Dollar Stores that looks like a bag, and you just put your basket inside and 'fluff up' the top. It might be with the Christmas items...??

thanks so much everyone! We scored on the ribbon this morning so I'm off to drop it at the centre along with my daughter who will be helping with the ribbons this afternoon. If anyone can volunteer a couple of hours, she will be the one with the adorable baby girl in tow. I also got a couple of laundry baskets

I checked the $$ store in truro but they didn't have any wrap big enough got the "big" baskets, Oh! maybe I could get chirstmas tree bags? I'm sure I remember someone giving me pillows or something in a clear bag that had little christmas trees printed on them, it was a big bag. Failing that maybe one of the florists has something they will let me buy, they wrap baskets in the bigger commercial stuff. The biggest stuff I saw today was 30", I'd need 4 of them and lots of tape for each of the big baskets

Lor, I have volunteered with a few groups in our area, and it does happen. This year alone, while collecting for the free firework display we have in our town, 2 girls went around claiming to be with the group, figure they scammed over 1000 bucks.

Also, for the silent auction, have you guys already gone to local businesses for support?

Man, you would be suprised at all the local businesses that helped us, from hair salons to oil changes, to fishing charters, it was all amazing.

yes, the "service" businesses have been terrific and donated lots of things, even tattoos. Someone donated a large framed sketch, lots of things. They plan to start the silent auction earlier in the day and they have an assortment of bands playing that night. The bar is donating the cover charge and a portion of every beer.

I saw the news item about the scammers last night. WTH is wrong with people? I do think when money needs to be raised, a bank account should be setup for donations and that way it doesn't ever change hands except with the right people. Money jars on counters or door to door is just too tempting for thieves.

thats how they found out really, an account was set up at the TD (I think thats the right bank) almost immed. No one was going door to door- My daughter and one of the organizers set up a table at the mall, where you could get a green ribbon for a donation, after that first day one of the local shops took over the ribbon for donation so the girls could put up posters (and because the mall limited the time they could set up without charging them rent .
It was because they were going door to door that they got caught- I hate to say it but the 3 involved were all students at the school for the mentally challanged so i doubt they can even be charged- and possibly someone else put them up to it by making them think they were doing something great- I hope the police sort it out but I know they are stretched so thin right now

they released the video that shows Amber just moments before she vanished. From the time she is no longer visable (about halfway down that street) to Big Al's store where there is another security camera, was probably no more than 60-90 seconds, yet she never appeared at the other end of the street. A police car is seen stopped at a red light, facing in the direction she was walking. There were so many people around. But no one, including the police, saw a thing. This wasn't just a horrifying crime, its one of the boldest I've ever seen.
