The basic recipe came from all recipes. I altered it to my liking. Here it is:
2 eggs
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 3/4 cups milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 tablespoon white sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat waffle iron. Beat eggs till fluffy. Add the rest of the ingredients, beat till smooth.
Spray waffle iron with PAM. Pour mix on waffle iron. Cook till golden.
Hope you will like it!

We make all our own waffles & pancakes too! I agree, it's usually cheaper and so much healthier than the frozen type you can buy at the store. I especially like making our own because it's so easy to put some great things in them, such as flax seed, omega eggs, organic flour, etc. When my oldest was about 2 he went through a pancake phase and would only eat pancakes morning, noon, and night, so we got VERY creative at different types to make - banana, blueberry, apple cinnamon with raisons, etc.)
On occasion we make waffles with the Waffle House's recipe and they are SO GOOD, but VERY high in sugar!
Good idea for a post, so true about there being so many other ways to cut costs without thinking in terms of coupons, sales, loyalty programs, etc.

I have a quick easy cheap pancake recipe for anyone who is interrested. Got it from the chef Jamie Oliver on the cooking network.
1 mug of flour
1 mug of milk
1 egg
Mix it all together then cook.
It can be altered if you want to. I added bananas in it the other day. Turned out very good. If altering it all you have to do is make sure you add a bit more milk or flour until it's the right consistency. I hope you all enjoy it.

Great post, it is amazing the savings when cooking from scratch. Ever since my boys were little...hmmm, many, many years ago. When making pancakes, I will make extra and freeze them, great for the toaster. Don't try it with crepes, just trust me, it does not work lol.
Also when in need of a fast supper I will buy a store prepared baked chicken, then use the leftovers for home made soup, or if not that ambitious, will just make chicken stock for the freezer. I do the same with turkey, it is so nice to have stock in the freezer ready for soup. It is also a great way to help control your salt intake, as I find the store bought broths are loaded with it.

Hi there - has anyone tried making pancakes/waffles with Soy Milk? My son is allergic to dairy - just wondering if the Soy will work. TIA for any responses.

$avvyshopper , I use Bisquick when I don't make my own batter from scratch. They are delicious as well. The Bisquick was on sale and there were coupons too, so that might be another way. I make a bunch and freeze them.

Connie106...you can always try my above pancake recipe with the soy milk. If they don't turn out it won't be too much of a waste. I would immagine it would turn out o.k. but i never cooked with soy milk before. Please let me know how it turns out if you do. I sometimes buy soy milk when it's cheaper then regular milk with coupons. I should make a batch and freeze them soon too. Kind of hard when my family eats a batch in 1 sitting...lol....

I love that! do it all the time when I shop. Look for the deals with the coupons and then plan the meals. There are some great sites out there like Kraft, where you can type in what ingredients you have and it will give you a receipe based on that...how cool is that?? cuts down on waste for sure cuz you use whatever you buy!!! Great job!!

I was in need of shelving in my basement for small stockpile. My 1 shelving unit just isn't sturdy enough. I work in a restaurant and help put the orders away. We get a ton of the plastic milk crates and so that is what I am using, just stack one on top of the other. Now you would think it would be tipsy or wobbly, but surprisingly they aren't. And when we move next year all I have to do is turn it sideways and away I go!!!
