I've never seen it. I would think the closest you could get to buy would be to get a can of whole tomatoes and blitz them - maybe don't add all the liquid right away til you get the consistency you want.
Otherwise it would mean making your own - put tomatoes in boiling water for several minutes, put in cold water, remove skins. Chop roughly, then puree in blender.
Depending upon what the recipe is, perhaps you could get away with using a can of plain tomato sauce.

isn't that the same as crushed tomato? if so they do have them in cans. I currently have a can by PC (president's choice)

Most grocery stores carry it here but usually only one brand and I don't think it is a huge seller!, It is called tomato passata, it is usually in with the pasta sauces and most always in glass jars. I started seeing it a few years ago and I see it in more recipes lately. Basically a tomato puree without liquid or seeds. i make my own, just drain canned tomatoes through a sieve or colander and puree in your food processor or blender, similar to Natalka's suggestion..
