Mmmmmmm...I should have done that in the big kitchen in our former home...but it belongs to our DD and her family now........I simply don't have the space in my smaller kitchen, although I could grow them in our front livingroom window...but in the winter...good idea, I should transplant our herbs from our garden indoors next fall!Quote:

I love doing this! I put mine in a giant bin (dollar store, looks like a mini recycling bin) with potting mix.
It's been two years now and the same green onions are still going strong! They stay outside in the warmer months and I bring them into the mudroom in the winter.
They never die, it seems. I plant them with chives, which are thriving year after year.
This is great. For years I grow most of veggie in pots and it is awesome to just go on balcony and pick it up directly from pot.
OK ya all, I am convinced. I am going to get on board and try this. I kill all greens that I touch, so wish me luck! LOL!!
What an excellent idea. Every year I say I'm going to start my herb garden and then nothing. I was even tempted to pick some up (chives and parsley) at the Garden Centre this morning.

Lol, I heard this but hadn't seen a pic so what I did was put the entire bunch of onions standing in a jar with a bit of water (ie. I didn't cut off the tops). It keeps them fresh, so they don't get wilted like in the fridge. The only thing is the white part gets a bit soft after a few days, but I just keep cutting the greens off and using them.

@1_love wait! you don't plant them in soil after they grow some roots in the water? I take my ones out of the water and place them in soil to get bigger.Quote:
