I didn't sleep alone til I was 9, I think - when the second oldest sister went to uni and my next oldest sister moved to her room.
Not that I was terrified, but I remember being scared by the 'devil faces' I saw in the pattern on the curtains in the room - they kind of haunted me for a while.
The only other time I remember being scared was when I woke up because I heard the sound of the garage door being opened in the middle of the night (we were in a split-level with the garage under the second floor). My sister and I went into our older sister's room - and she told us that Dad took Mom to the hospital. Later that day our little brother was born!

At 9, we got to see free movies every Saturday. The Clint Eastwood movie, The Good The Bad and The Ugly – I watched peeking through my hands. So many people being shot in this Western movie. Now, really like Clint Eastwood.

When it rained and there was thunder storms and lightning as a kid I dreaded it. Being an only child I didn't have no siblings to sleep with.

I had trouble with the dark for a long time and I tend to have very vivid dreams. Growing up I would always freak myself out. I remember waking up to what I thought was some random person in swim trunks standing over my bed once, and when he said 'Hey' I freaked out and slept with all the lights on for a good two weeks. I blame it on an overdose of preteen girly movies. I also remember watching The Ring with a friend and the TV was really really touchy, so when we turned it off that night, we woke up to it turned back on to the fuzzy static screen... that on took months of sleeping with the lights on. (It's part of the movie, if you haven't seen it before)
Silly preteen girls

When my kids were small, we'd camp out together in the living room whenever we had a lightning storm.

the dark was a biggie for me as a kid. One bedroom and 4 girls, so we were never " coddled " over our fears, and there was def. no sleeping with my parents, that was never an option in our home. When I had my own 3 kids I was softer on them and allowed them to sleep with us if they were frightened.

YES. That's exactly what I was going to write. The creepy lady in the kitchen with cuts on her arms, Mischa Barton hiding under the bed. And her getting sick.
My mom was like, " It's probably just oatmeal! "

I had nightmares for so long and I remember being so scared to go to the bathroom at night because I was afraid of that lady in my house.
(I`m laughing so hard now at the gif but whatever) The movie itself is actually really good if you think about it, the plot twist, the "red" items....
I was also terrified of Pet Semetary... the sick sister who choked on her food. That movie still freaks me out. (I think this is a sign I don`t like sick people....)
Decided to google that image and pass on posting it... Thanks Dan, now I`m scared again!!

I didn't sleep in my own room for the next few months(alternately shared with my mom and brothers) and even after that I had to have my lights turned on.
