We'll have to disagree. Most of the history professors I had felt it was more of a term given to an aliance rather than a true party

I imagine they would at least try a coalition, bc it is fairly obvious that the other parties would defeat the govt otherwise, esp if it turns out to be a Cons minority and the GG would not want another election so soon

Yes, but gryphon said they could say no to a coalition if they did not think it would last. They would usually allow the minority to govern for a while

Nanos hasn't updated their numbers today. I guess they didn't poll on Thanksgiving.

so.......did anybody go to the advance polls? I ask because I did, DH saw the lineup and walked back home. I stood there wondering why the line was not moving at all? So I look over and see only ONE cardboard voting box thingy?
I asked why and was told it is the law in the advanced polling ( they can have only one in each polling station )

A fellow behind me asked why the gals are so slow processing the people though, and he was told that this year at the advance polls the gals have to fill out a questionnaire with 17 ( ) fields they have to check off, then they write the voters name in there AND the voter then has to sign on the space provided!??

    Anyone experienced that?
The person who was telling us all this showed us the form and she said they had voters coming in today as well as the other days and when they were told to sign they walked away!
So on voting day they will have like 5 or more stalls where voters can place their votes, I think DH made the right call on this one, I was there for 35 minutes!

We went to the poll yesterday and yes, there was just one box.
However, we just were lucky we got there at a time - 3 p.m. - when there was a lull, so we got through quickly, only one person in front of us, and several behind us.
They did say there were lineups out the door before that, since they had opened.

Did not have to fill out a questionnaire - maybe that's for people who didn't have their registration cards?
Just handed over the card with driver's license at the first stop, she found us on the list and marked the page number for the poll person, went over to the poll station, handed the form, she found us on the list, we signed, then were given the ballot.

Ahahahha...too funny. It is indeed how things work. In the UK, the PM has a meeting with the Queen every week, and needs all sorts of permissions to do stuff e.g. dissolving parliament for a break

That survey sounds more like exit pollers than actual Elections staff unless there is something weird in your riding they are trying to manage? He voted as he is away for work this week, the lineup was long but quick, he didn't mention having to sign anything just showed his ID & card, got his voting card.

I am not sure if it is the law to only have one box, it is to have advance polls but I think one box has been just the standard in the past since the advance numbers were much lower.

I would personally give Elections Canada a call and ask about any info you give on that 17 Q form and how it will be used because it sounds kinda weird, and if they are doing it on election day, will likely cause lineups past close of voting
