Thread: Filling up the deep freeze

I find I'm not couponing as much as I used to as we have shifted to more natural products and fresh ingredients. So thank goodness for the store loyalty programs that still let me save money on the things I do purchase at the grocery store!
Our sobeys does 10% Tuesdays on the first Tuesday of the month. I've also been getting great airmiles offers on the sobeys website that load to my airmiles card. (Spend $70 get 70 AM, etc.) So I've been saving up some airmiles cash. Today I decided to blow it and stock up our freezer.
This week at Sobeys the 3kg packages of frozen chicken breasts were on sale for $24.99 (reg $34.99). I picked up two boxes and a small package of wings ($4.34). I used the uncle Bens chicken coupon on the wings to make them $0.34.
Total: $50.32
After redeeming $40 in Airmiles cash, I paid $10.32! (I was just 2 airmiles shy of the full $50!)
(27 chicken breasts)

I would have loved to, but my airmiles account seems to take 3-5 days for the points to show up on my card. I did split the above shop into two transactions to see if the points would show up right away, because I did earn 3 miles on each box, but they didn't so I had to pay that $10. So in 3-5 days I'll have another $10 to spend. We will see whats on sale for 10% Tuesday next week.
Good luck on the chicken breasts, they are actually a pretty nice size and cook up nicely. Tonight is Chicken Parmesan Baked Pasta!

Fantastic redemption of your AM @beckie.c ! I am curious about the chicken breasts, ( since I've never bought any from Sobey's ) Are they the pre seasoned kind or are they frozen from their natural state? I know with FB I stopped buying their frozen chicken breasts for that reason ( the salt content was really high )
Happy shopping!!

good on ya! aren't the Ben's coupons awesome. Yes, I'm staying away from pre-frozen high salt, high fat etc. of pre-seasoned chicken. (Haven't been to M&Ms in years -- too much salt and you really notice it.)

These ones are pre-seasoned. They are 360mg per 100g... the Sunrise Farms brand at Costco are some of the better pre-seasoned frozen that I have seen at 250mg per 100g (250mg = 1/8tsp lol I always have to convert my salt/sugar to tsp to actually know what I'm eating). Since I just skip using salt in recipes when I use frozen breasts, and I'm making my own sauces, I don't worry as much about the salt content in these. I also thaw them covered in water and give them a good rinse to take off as much of the brine as possible before cooking. We buy a side of organic beef/pork with family once a year from a local farm, and I'd love to buy their chicken breasts too, but they are way more expensive at $25.00/kg so I stick to the frozen ones for now

thanks for the reply beckie, and smart way to counter act the pre seasoned chicken breasts by soaking and not adding any extra salt while cooking.
