I know how to make granny squares already, I thought it looked like the shape was due to the rows. That's the part I am struggling with. How to make the shape itself.

It looks like:
There is a central granny square, there are two motifs at each stich in the corners and this is how it gets bigger
After the grey row there is just one motif per stitch always which starts the basket/tube shape...continues until 2nd orange row
After that the rows go across and not all the way around

Looks like they crochet all the way to the green on the granny square then just did stripes.I looked for a pattern but could not find one.Attachment 302937

At the corners, instead of 3 double crochet, 2 chain, 3 double crochet, continue 3 double crochet 1 chain as you do normally to make the basket shape
think from the grey square, the top is 3 dc 1 c to make the corner but the bottom is the regular 3 dc 2 c 3 dc to make the corner

Did a search for you Here's what I found:
She calls it a granny armrest on pinterest/flicker and an armrest cover on her blog.
Here's the flicker convo:

Here's her flicker page:

Here's her blog where she it looks like she first posted the photo, along with matching projects:

If you poke around her blog, you'll find a way to contact her. Don't know if the blog is still active, etc. Others have asked for the pattern also but I didn't see any response but she does give advice for making it on the flicker page.
Good luck

Thanks @lecale . Was just coming to ask that very question. I did a few rows around before I realized the basket wasn't going to sit on the arm well lol.

Thanks @Silk . Think I found her explanation. Confusing a bit but will see how it goes.
