We've all received some awesome gifts, I'm sure, so what is the absolute best? And on the other end of the spectrum, the worst gift you've ever received?

Best: My Mom and Dad bought me a Keurig for Christmas last year and I don't think a day has gone by when I haven't used it!
Worst: This big, gaudy, sparkly water fountain thing with ugly flowers all over it from my ex MIL... I shudder when I think of that thing! Yes, I know it's the thought that counts but that woman was... how can I put this nicely? Insane
And not one of mine but my best friend asked for a crock pot last year and her bf bought her... a sweater... with a wolf on it... in camoufla.ge (why in heck won't it let me write that word?) print... mens... 2 sizes to small

well... one year dh decided that it would be really cool to buy me a vacuum cleaner.. that would be filed under the 'worst' category
the best - every year my mother buys me a gift card for winners, i usually can make it last for several months

The very worst Christmas gift we got was DMIL dying on Christmas Eve in 2008. We spent Christmas day and Boxing day sorting out a flight back to the UK while trying to keep everything Christmas normal for the kids.
The second worst was a long-sleeved, high-neck, long heavy cotton nightdress in a horrible brown-paisley pattern given to me my said DMIL. Both of my Sis-in-laws got the same.
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

My mom tries to get us neat little trinkets. Last year she gave me the WEIRDEST thing, she found it at liquidation world I think, but you can buy them online.

I have never expressed interest in harvesting pearls from oysters. Certainly not those shoved into cans which reek of death when you crack them open. It terrifies me that they have a "do not drink the liquid" in the can warning. Who would drink something that STUNK that bad?! You also have to crack the oyster open with a little spatula that's like the kind you find in tuna kits. Also, it makes a god-awful snapping and crushing sound when you break it.
Oh, and my grandma ordered me a floor-length fleece nightgown from Sears, complete with lace ruffles around the near-turtleneck neckline. I looked like an ugly doll. To top it off, it was modeled by a senior lady in the catalogue. Why, grandma, why would you think your 14 year old granddaughter would want that?! WHY?
My dad though, is the worst for bad gifts. I'm helping him with his shopping this year. And by helping, I mean nearly doing all of, he only really shops for my mom anyway. Last year, and mostly every year, he went to Canadian Tire and decided that good presents for your wife are turtle wax and car seat covers and motor oil. I made him go to walmart and get her a cd and some candy too, because that is just unfortunate.Last edited by Chantel; Wed, Nov 23rd, 2011 at 09:03 PM.

worst; first time I met my SIL & BIL(DH bro) they gave me the small box of Toffifay while they gave handmade gifts for the reat of SIL family. DH and I had been together a couple of years by this time so I was not some fly by night chick that deserved a 3$ box a chocolates. was I bitter? yes! apparently still am a bit. and after that we no longer exchange gifts.
best: a green silk shirt from my Mom. Parents had just split and this was our 1st xmas w/o my Dad. Mom had barely any $$ but she made itt a wonderful dayLast edited by caroman; Mon, Dec 5th, 2011 at 04:14 PM.

worst.. god love him is the year hubby twisted and stuffed a peptobismal pink/orange/sherbety colored knitted long skirt into a roll of empty wrapping paper. must say he has improved 100% since.. but to this day.. i still remind him of that skirt.. he swears was 'nice' back in the 80's maybe.. ok it was the 80's but still..
best.. gosh, a few of them,by my parents northbynorthwest sweater/flute/diamond ring. all in one xmas.. every one is gone now..
best from hubby.. white leather winter boots (part of a complete emsemble that xmas
) ahem also still in the 80's.
however he's done some good ones recently. he bought me a Royal Doulton 'my name' two years ago.. by far that was the best.. put me into a million tears.
i jokingly said how are you going to top this one.. he just shook his shoulders said.. oh i will. he did. last xmas two rings under the tree.. one was a silver band with engraved fillagree that has our initials in it.. and a ruby silver 'family' ring. their birthdays are all July.
can't wait til this year.Be Strong

Be You.
Simple as that!

Best: Either the Tim Horton's coffee maker from my ILs or the Ipod my H bought me last year and hid in a pack of socks.
Worst: My H would so embarrassed if he knew I told you this but one year, he gave me a membership to Adults Only Video with a bunch of BOGO movie coupons. Worst gift ever.

Best: CHI flat Iron
Worst: One year my brother bought me this.....
It does absolutely nothing, completely useless and it just sits in the top of my closet creepily smiling at me.
He still has no good explanation as to why he bought me it.

LOL, I would totally expect to get turtle wax from my DH. He's a kindred spirit to my dearly departed grandfather, who was well known for giving me Canadian Tire Christmas gifts - see my CT emergency blanket, clock radio, jumper cables, emergency candles (the ones that give off giant clouds of black smoke but are good for camping), or economy bag of zip ties, among others.
Dear lord! I hope you guys were alone when you opened it!!
Scariest. Gift. Ever. I sprayed tea out my nose when I saw it! Poor you! It would give me nightmares if I had to keep it with me.
My best - It's hard to think of one, but the best from last year was a reciprocating saw! We are doing some home renovations, so it was truly the perfect gift.
Worst - Clothes from my dear mother. All my adult life, I've been about 125 lbs and 5'8" tall, except for a brief period about 7 years ago when my weight shot up when I was severely depressed and in a bad relationship. I don't know where she gets the idea from, but Mom likes to buy me clothing sized XL-4XL. The clothes are also normally seconds or marked down gems from Liquidation World or Sally Ann or Value Village that are frequently faded, have holes, or are otherwise mangled. She also has an extreme and unexplained fondness for leopard print. Last year, it was a size XXL 3-piece set (jacket/blazer, blouse and miniskirt) in leopard print, with glitter on the jacket. The fabric was a thin polyester and the blouse was see-through. I donated it to Sally Ann (probably from whence it came) and hope that it is now gracing some little girl's dress-up box and not an adult's closet, lol!Last edited by glowworm2k; Thu, Nov 24th, 2011 at 08:00 AM.
