I have flare ups that are so bad sometimes. I use a TENS unit but I still find myself waking up with neck and shoulder pain almost every day and I am not sure how to fix this. I have one of those expensive foam pillows for neck support (it was $125+) and it only helps sometimes. I have to sleep with ice on my neck every night or I will wont be able to fall asleep.
Any suggestions on what I can try at night to help me sleep better? Maybe a better pillow? This thread is currently associated with: N/ALife isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.

You need a good chiropractor. I can get a recommendation from mine for your area if you like.
Have you ever injured it? Is it nerve damage?

I honestly am not sure what happened. When I was in my teens I cracked it a lot. When I seen a doctor 4 years ago, she said it is a posture issued. I went through physical therapy and it didn't do much. I then seen a chiropractor once a month for 2 years and I think she made it worse. I think I carry my stress in my neck so I don't think anything will help until I learn to not tense so much.

I have always found that if I use a pillow that doesn't "suit" me, I start getting chronic neck aches. No matter how innocent that pillow appears, if it's not for me it's not for me.

The wrong pillow will do it to me every time as well. I find even my jaw hurts when the pillow is wrong.
So I discovered the best pillow in the world (in my opinion). It is the water pillow. You fill it with water to suit you, whether you need it firm or soft.
FYI, I pay about $50.00 for my water pillow and I get it at a chiropractor, not a store.
Hope this helps.

I went through several neck pillows and the best one for me is the water pillow. You can add as much water as you like depending on how firm you want it. The obus forme pillow made my neck worse. Unfortunately it is trial and error as everyone is different. Shoppers Drug Mart sells water neck pillows.
If physio, chiropractor and massage aren't helping than ask to see a physiatrist (physical medicine & rehabilitation specialist) you need a doctors' referral. Mine sent me for a MRI, nerve conduction tests, etc and figured out what was wrong - she is a gem. I see her monthly for trigger point injections which really help.Last edited by barbis9; Fri, Aug 26th, 2016 at 09:52 AM.

3 years ago, I would have told you are nuts, but since I have been seeing a chiropractor, the pain in my neck, shoulder, and back have lessened, not gone, but helps... I use the tens machine lots, and hot showers. I do miss going to the chiropractor since I broke my leg back in July, but once able I will go back. I honestly didn't think it was helping, but since not going, I have huge pains again!

Both of you should buy a Dr. Hoe's Tens Machine... I use mine usually several times of the day on neck, shoulder, back, and now my broken leg... Also great for diabetics if you get the one for the feet.. gets the circulation moving in your feet also... Worth looking into...
