2016 financial resolutions.

With the 2016 days away I thought it would be nice to have a 2016 thread like last year's.

Like with last year we can share resolutions, cheer each other on and offer some accountability.

You could have 1 resolution or several... it's up to the individual.

"The possibilities are endless, could be not purchasing that hot beverage in the mornings, saving for a vacation, renovations ------ the sky is the limit and the possibilities are endless as these are individual FINANCIAL Resolutions" as Jasperchar said last year.

My 2016 resolutions are

1. Stay afloat as much as possible for the 3 to 4 months bf is on medical leave.
2. Once bf is back to work rebuild my emergency savings and our joint savings.
3. Try not to rely on credit.
4. Start a vet bill savings for dragon's recurring yeast infections.
5. Paint the living room.
6. Do better with coupons and shopping sales. We got lax with it last year.
7. Work on Christmas savings account once bf is back to work. And do 52 week savings challenge for it.
8. Work a new stove into the budget through either "bonuses" from work or income tax. ***may not need if the part bf ordered fixes it.
9. Work fixing my flex into our budget sooner rather than later.
10. Clear clutter and either sell it or donate it. Don't buy too much.

1. Save all I can for a down payment on a house. I want to be at (hopefully) 20k in my checking account before the end of the year. I'm still living at home so that just means working as much as I can and carrying on saving as much as I can.

2. Get working on my course to get a new job (and therefore make more money). I want to be done it and applying for jobs before next winter. The goal is not to spend another Christmas in retail.

3. Be on track with those two things so that I can start actually, seriously house-hunting by 2017. This includes making budgets, plans, figuring out how to house a tenant and knowing my ins and outs of tenancy (I want to have a suite with a tenant in the basement) before getting started.

3. Pay cash for all 3 trips I am taking this year. (Approx $5500 total)

Ive done the 52 week savings challenge and an altered version of it for the same reason. Its an incredible feeling not to be paying off debt after the gifts are given.

I paid for everything with cash/debit this year but it still really broke the bank. I'm looking forward to saving for next Christmas

1. Catch up financially from DH's four months of unpaid sick time in 2015 (by March) - $0 credit card, top up missed savings & RRSP contributions
2. Knock off the remaining balance on my Student Loan ($5K)
3. Set aside the cash for the following planned 2016 home maintenance items: garage siding & eaves (spring), upstairs flooring (spring), new bedroom and kitchen window (fall)
4. Pay cash for our Trip to Europe in September
5. Take lunch and coffee from home, and utilize the free gym at work more often since I have an hour lunch break.

I put away $100 per month in my "Christmas account". It is building nicely so thinking Hawaii for mama once the kids are done School lol

#5 for me too. Eating lunch at my desk and going to the gym means no shopping during the week

I was inspired by the 2015 thread and followed along so this year I will share our goals for 2016. Some are big, some are little but the little all adds up.
The little-
Reduce my lunch/coffee purchases. I work in the city half the time and I am often too lazy to pack & carry my lunch in on the train(pathetic). I know that I will never get to zero but even a reduction would be good. My team helped in this regard as they have me a sizable gift card for Starbucks so it will be spring before I spend it all.
Use kijiji for both buy and sell. I am terrible about just donating things that I could have sold but I find it such a hassle.
The big-
Save enough money to buy DH a newer car, we have a chunk saved already but I would like to be able to buy the newest car possible.
Max out the TFSA- the amount returns to 5500.00 for 2016 so an easier number to manage.
The really big-
Increase our net worth by 20% (easier for us as we are mortgage free), but I want to scale back my work in the next 2 years so we really have to dig in now to do that.
