@Lynn49 we also make a fruit cake but the fruits is ground and soak in Rum and wine for more that six months before we used it mine is already ready for me to used will start my baking for Christmas in mid December
Oh my goodness, @flemeth!! I've never heard of fruits being soaked that long....nevermind cake..I'd just eat them as is!! :)
I had said I'd soak them in bourbon, but we have Napoleon brandy here, so that's what I used today. I'm not sure what I want to keep brushing it with over the next few month, weekly...sherry, perhaps. LOL..as IF that cake needs more sweetness! hahaha...maybe I should stick to the brandy. Or rum....or....I don't know...:)
I also need to make more red pepper jelly for the holidays; we enjoy it over goat or cream cheese on crackers, or spread over a wheel of brie and baked. :P
I vaguely remember my Mom starting hers in June or July. The fruit was soaked in Rum I think, and every week, she'd be brushing it with some sort of liquor, I thin it was Rum too.
Me, I'm way to lazy to take that on. LOL
More power to you ladies. Just make sure you save me a slice. Yum. :)
Will do @22hicks .
Dang it. Their flight couldn't land here because of fog so they're back in Toronto. Might as well spend the night at the Gateway, I doubt they'll be home tonight. It's drizzly here, no fog, but I guess it's bad enough at the airport.
Hello everyone!!! :)Yes I do love fruitcakes too in the Hollidays ,My aunts make a great one with nuts too.And I purchase some lol.I appreciate that my aunt on holliday season give me a basket of goodies she cooked for me since my mom have passed away 10 years ago.It make me more festive.Another rainy day so just chilling and for supper it will be a Chinese beef fondue with some gouda and swiss cheese, some fresh bread and a ceasar salad.Wishing everyone a great remaining of day!!! :)
@cath007 I love that cake with hazelnuts or almonds, but our GS has a nut allergy, so I want to keep him safe. He won't likely enjoy the cake, but even with us having it, we'd have to stay away from him....he's not anaphalactic, but best be safe. How wonderful of your Aunts to treat you and your Dad to Christmas goodies! Thank goodness when someone else makes them the calories aren't transferred to us! :)
The Brood don't want to do Christmas this year.
I never really want to do Christmas so it looks like a very restrained holiday here.
We were travelling all the way home from Collingwood in varying degrees of fog. It's mesmerizing! Made it fine but I am SO tired.
I guess you'll be getting VS to school in the morning, eh, Babba?
Darth- maybe you and the brood could donate your time to a charity dinner or something to keep your mind occupied that day. I know it's going to be rough.
I really haven't thought this through myself yet.
Christmas really Isn't the issue for me - it will be the end of January.
My BrotherB and his friend came over and put together my sound system today after we got home.
I found a terrific ladies wear sale yesterday and today.
Tomorrow, LHIN lady -formerly CCAC- is coming over to 're-assess my BrotherR' s needs. Then I have a Dr. appointment and then Quilting class. I am basically a week behind.
I did pick up a couple of small Christmas presents while a way.
Need to make a list of things I need to do. I need a list of lists.
Will chat later.
My sweet Sadie has been adopted by a family with another Schnauzer and two teenagers. I'm happy for her, but, I'm crying.
