Thread: Fake Coupon Alert
-
Sat, Dec 31st, 2011, 05:53 PM #1
The retailer I work for informed us to be on the look out for fake printable coupons. There are supposed to be a bunch of them but the 2 mentioned to us were: B1G3 2L Pepsi products (pepsi does not do printable coupons), and a $100 off Fisher Price. Both of these a extreme ones, I know, but from what we were told there is atleast 20 to 30 different ones out there. They look fine, meet all requirements and everything, except for the fact they are fake. Unfortunately that was all the information we were given.
It is people making fake coupons like this that make it so hard for us to use printable coupons at some places.
Figured I would post in case any of you come across some. If we are given any further info, I will pass it on.This thread is currently associated with: N/A

there are some fake printables out there... google search turns up nothing. The best way to ensure a coupon is legit is to get it from the source... like pepsi or fisher price.

Those "coupons" are just crazy! $100 off FP products is just insane, they wouldn't release a coupon like that for anyone to use. IF there was a legit coupon, it would be for some kind of loyalty program (like the $10 off $20 worth of certain products that GTG had) with VERY limited release/use.
And a B1G3 free? Again INSANE.
It's bad enough when people make their own coupons, but those are seriously greedy! lol. Hope they get caught right away!

I think there is a similar legit fisher price coupon but you get it through the FP diaper rewards program which is american only http://www.fisher-price.com/us/special/offers/

It's amazing how many counterfeit coupons are floating around the internet. I don't know of any site that shows Canadian counterfeit coupons, but there is a list here with a ton of notices about counterfeit coupons in the States. If you click the PDF link after each coupon listing it will show a voided version of the coupon. Here is one PDF showing a ton of fake P&G coupons (all voided, of course!): http://www.couponinformationcenter.c...Correction.pdf
The coupons shown at that link are:
$9 WYB2 Crest mouthwashes
$10 WYB4 Dawn
$8 WYB6 Pringles
$14 Gillette Fusion refills 4 pack
$8 WYB2 Crest pastes
It's amazing how high value these are. I wonder how many times the counterfeiters used those coupons? I bet this Angel Soft FPC was used at a store because someone wrote the redemption value on it

Even if a retailer reads the whole coupon, it's still difficult to distinguish if it's real or not. Only way of finding out is to either accept the coupon and attempt to gain the redeemed value back or not accept it at all.
It really sucks because a lot of people have legitimate coupons and manufacturers keep offering to customers even though many retailers are refusing them.
Luckily the WM near me accepts printables.. usually I am using other kinds of coupons too at the same time though.

as soon as I read this I thought about the episode on tuesday of extreme couponing allstars. She bought 28 dawn detergents in 7 transactions of 4. I really hope this wasn't a coupon she used without knowing it was fake! She had something along the lines of 96% saved.... so now I'm curious.
I'm not accusing at all, it just made me wonder.

The coupon scammers know that it takes time for the retailer to collect and submit to the company for reimbursement. By that time, the scammers are long gone with their products and money. And the retailer doesn't get the money for the coupon and is out sales of the product. THe manucturer is ripped off too.
It like someone going into a store and walking out with the products - this form of theft hurts us all. Product prices may increase to recover losses at the retailer and at the manufacturer, depending on how widespread the scam is.
