Hey, I thought this would be the best place to get advice. My boyfriend and I are considering moving to Calgary after I finish my bachelor. We are thinking about getting him into a trade and I am looking for anything with pension and benefits! Any advice about job seeking or where to live? Any frugal tips to moving out there?
I have family so we plan on crashing and getting jobs before moving out on our own again.
Thanks in advanceThis thread is currently associated with: N/A

I have some family that are electricians. I know that they are always looking for apprentices! He could do any required schooling at SAIT (located in the city)

Haha his brother went to school to be an electrician and is having no luck here in ontario...I just want to make sure he enjoys whatever trade he gets into...right now he works at the Metro Warehouse and hates the job, which makes life harder for both of us!

Well if he does want to be an electrician and can't happen to find anything in Calgary, he can make a ton of cash doing it in Fort McMurray (or as the electricians call it: Fort McMoney) usually its like 2 weeks on and 5 days off or something like that. He'll spend a lot of time away from home but he'll make lots of money! Also, any of the trades associated with the oilfields will make him cash here in Alberta!

The NW part of the city is nice and the school are great. Bus service is awesome and their are good shops/sports centers/libraries and theaters.
Put your resume out on the usual Monster.ca, City of Calgary ect.
You could also try the temp angencies.
Hopt this helps you out,
Calgary is awesome, low crime rate, great weather, great people and easy to get around in.
