My one little day care kid has a horrible diaper rash. She's teething right now, getting 4 teeth so that's part of it. It's been bad for a few weeks and nothing seems to be helping. Truly this is the worst sore bum I've seen in a long time. She's raw from the top of her butt crack to her vajaja. She's bleeding and there has even been blood in her diaper. I've suggested everything I can think of and now am reaching out.

Anyone have experience with bad diaper rashes? What worked, what didn't?

I'm willing to suggest anything to her mother at this point.

Yikes, poor thing. My boys never had it that bad, but when they did get a diaper rash I used corn starch (when they had to wear a diaper) and I tried to let them go with out a diaper when possable.

She might have a yeast infection though, and she'll need a perscription.

I was looking online and sometimes that type of rash is due to an allergy...

She did have a yeast infection. The mom got stuff for it and it cleared up mostly. Now this is happening and the mom thinks it's because 4 teeth are coming in. I could mention allergies to her.

With one that bad, I would have taken DD to the doctor, but you can't do much that mom won't. Give the poor bum air as much as you can.

The mom's pretty busy. She's keeps mentioning she'll take her to the doctor but hasn't quite yet. I could try the air time.

The mom really needs to take that child to the doctor so he/she can prescribed the proper cream for it. If its starting to bleed that could lead to an infection which is even worse. It might have started out like a diaper rash but it's progressing now since its been left untreated. Please tell the mom to take her child to a walk in clinic or even the hospital.

I'll mention infection today when she picks up her daughter. I know if I heard that for my son I'd go to the doctor right away

    Aw that poor child!

Some things I've heard of but have never had to use (thankfully):
    -Lansinoh or Medela nipple cream
-Oatmeal bath or Tea bath or Aveeno oatmeal & baking soda bath
    -Cloth diapering
    -Damp washcloth instead of wipes
-Maalox or Mylanta (actually heard from several people that this works really well, and also acts as a cooling agent on the skin)
-Bag Balm, sold in places like Peavey Mart and commonly used on cow udders while they are nursing, lol, but I've used it on cuts and stuff and it works well

I really hope the mother does something soon - KUP!

I would tell the mom that you can't take care of the child until she takes her to a Dr and has her properly checked out. You are legally responsible for that child while she is in your care. You may actually be legally responsible to report the situation.

If her bum is bleeding I am pretty sure that counts as neglect especially since you have continually asked the mother to take the child for care. Make notes to cover your own butt. It may be hard but I can only imagine the pain the poor child is going through.

My daughter had excema on her bum. We used cloth, Aveeno and when it started to get a little worse we gave her the Aveeno baths but the poor child is beyond the point.

Probably not the type of help you are looking for but it may be the only way to get the poor baby help.

Yeah that makes me mad that she won't take her child to the Dr. I would be missing work to take my daughter if I had to, no question!

Agree with all the other comments. My boys never were too bad, but when they got it I would lather on the zincofax, lay a blanket on the floor and let them air it out.

You can also call Capital Health Link 1-866-408-5465 to talk to a nurse or give the number to the parents.

This lady is a good mom. She doesn't have to justify her actions to anyone. But just so everyone knows she has tried almost all of the suggestions given. (except the cow udder thing lol) She also went to the dr when the baby had a rash to begin with which is how she found out about the yeast infection. It just seems to be getting worse. She's gone online, tried 4 different diaper creams, tried water instead of wipes, Tried that water squeeze bottle you get after giving birth to clean her, called health link.... and more.

This link is not about whether this lady is a good mom and doing everything she can it's about anyone else having the same experience and can give suggestions.

Ouch, poor baby. I've been there with my youngest son, every once in a while he will get a horrible rash and he scratches at it which makes it worse, and yes sometimes it does bleed a bit (mostly because of him scratching at it).

My suggestions would be (a) make sure she cannot access the area to scratch at it and
    (b) cream, cream and more cream! When my son has a rash I put zinc oxide cream on his bum every time he is changed. Oh and (c) if possible have the mom stop using wipes (can sometimes bother a rash) and just use a wet wash cloth (especially for just pee).

But I do agree if it's really really bad, you may have to tell her that you can't take her daughter until she has taken her to the doctor (not sure what your rights are in this case though).

The thing with the water is that it makes her scream as much as the wipes. I even tried putting her bum in luk warm water and you'd think I was killing the kid with how much she screamed. The cream we are using has the highest zinc she can find and lather it thickly. I honestly am at a loss.

I won't refuse to take her kid but I'll suggest taking her back to the dr.
