I hear the $5 thing, too, at work. Not sure why. We have cards from $1.49 to $9.99 *shrugs*

The song cards and the giant cards are in the higher end. Regular cards are in the lower. Fancier more in the middle.

I get people that say that while passing by the store and it makes me laugh everytime. They don't realize the accoustics from the hallway means I hear them clearly! Even with me being half deaf hahahaha.

If it were up to me, give me no card at all. Environmentally unfriendly, and I really don't care! Who keeps them anyhow? OK, sure some of you do, but for most they get recycled. For my DS, when he goes to a birthday party, we make a card. Much more personal!

i could care less about the card.. frankly, i'd rather not get one, unless my kids made it for me, that is... if it were up to me, i'd toss the cards into the trash but dh keeps all of them in a box somewhere.. he's the sentimental one in the family, not me.. of course, i do keep everything the kids make for me

I think it depends on the person and the occassion. I like deals and the sentiment is also important. More expensive isn't necessarily better.

I love dollar store cards and I get super mad at people when they spend money on them. My boyfriend is bad for it, he spends $6ish on cards all the time. I hate it. I'd rather he spend $6 more on the gift than a card.

A buck or less or no card, is how I feel.

Definitely a fan of cheaper cards. Most people end up trashing them anyways so why bother?

I make all my own cards and 90% of the time i dont put a premade sentiment in them. I would much prefer to write my own thoughts in there. I send a senior in my old apartment building a card everyweek to tell her I am thinking about her and I am pretty sure it could have nothing written in it and she would be happy.

I did look at cards in walmart the other day and was stunned that they were some $10. To me that is incredibly wasteful but I guess to some the more expensive the card the better.

Dollar Store - but I always use the free ones I recieve from the Cancer society & other charities I contribute to.

My MIL uses the ones people give to her - she requests that people don't sign the card or envelope so she can reuse them - very strange. I always right her name on the envelope just to erk her.

It's easy to make a card with fancy paper, stamps, etc. That's what I do most of the time, especially when I know the card will be important to the person. That way I'm spending less than a dollar on the materials, but it ends up being special to the person who receives it. I'm not one for sentimental messages, so this way I just write what I want to say.

i make most of my cards but stock up when on sale for $1 or so at Carlton, Hallmark. My mom is the only one who truly cares about getting a pricier card so I do that for her for all ocassions. I agree with others, cards are nice but putting the extra money towards the gift(s) is a better bet for me.

I always buy mine from the Dollar shop - i am too darn cheap to pay $4,$5,$6 on a card...i'd rather buy something else with that money instead!
I do, however, read the cards i buy....i don't want one that sounds too mushy or inappropriate and i do "try" to write something personal in them too...but sometimes i'm not very good at it and wish there was a delete button i could use,lol

We have bought individual cards at Dollarama that are tagged at $3 or $6, but we paid $1. So unless we tell the recipient, they don't know how much we paid.

I always get them at dollarama. I used to buy them at card shops until I stopped and realized that I was spending $5-$6 a card when my family just opens them up and reads them once. So I started going to dollarama and now my entire family gets them from there. Why spend a fortune on something you're only going to look at once?

You can tell by the name on the back of the card. Makes it easy to know it's from dollarama. Card stock is different, too, mostly.

Hallmark is the one (or primary) supplier for them since they bought them out. That's why almost all the cards state the same company on the back. Not hallmark and not dollarma. Image something? I can't remember. Sorry.
