I guess it depends where they live.

I live in the country and it's not uncommon to hear gunfire. I also see people riding horses down the main street sometimes. There are many wild animals in my backyard, including BEARS!

I watched the video and can see both sides. I'm not in favour of guns for purposes other than hunting animals to feed oneself/one's family, so the gun made me cringe. Looking beyond the gun, though, I see a dad who is angry after being humiliated by his daughter and a teenager doing what teenagers do - acting like a teenager.

That said, I know that parents get pushed to the limit and that we don't know the backstory.

On a personal note, the mention of both "mom" and "stepmom" reminded me of things I did as a teenager. My mom was often quite manipulative with my dad - and with me - after their separation; she unfortunately ended up trying to use me as a bargaining chip from time to time as I was the only child still living at home (sis had moved away to school). I don't think I need to publicly air my family's laundry, but suffice it to say that I learned to give as good as I got in terms of manipulation and I know in retrospect that how I acted at some times was awful.

Am I sorry about how I acted in retrospect? Yes.
Could I have used a "wake-up call" of some sort, i.e., with significant consequences, etc.? Probably.
Could my whole family have benefitted from counselling? Heck yes!

I agree with some of the arguments on both sides, so I'll leave it at that....

When I read the title of the video i thought ''wow this guy is insane'' but after watching the video... well I can't quite blame the guy.

I probably would have used a less violent method, like throwing the laptop in the pool or something instead of putting BULLETS through it... but still I think he's made his point. He acted based on emotionnal decisions rather than rational, this is what you get as a result... He metions having grounded her for 3 months in the past for a facebook post... 3 months!!! She should have seen a harsher consequence coming for this and if 3 months won't convince you to respect your parents well maybe she needed something drastic to keep her from going out of control...

Plus... rather have him shoot the laptop that the daughter. You might have heard that in Quebec Guy turcotte stabbed his kids to death and that this weekend a guy killed his mother and 2 nieces. Its so sad..

On a lighter note, I've heard it said that grounding your teenager is like punishing yourself. Think about it....3 months in your house with a teenager who's p'd right off. No treat for mom and dad!

Well in my opinion when you have a kid you take an oath to raise them well, no matter what. Even if it means having a pissed off kis/teen in the house for 3 months.

All teenagers , moan, and complain about their parents on facebook. He is the PARENT and should act like one. Not whip out his gun like a lunatic and start shooting up his daughters laptop, make a video of it and post it on youtube for everyone to see.

How embarrassing for his daughter, I feel so sorry for her. She must not want to leave the house and I don't blame her.

This is why certain people shouldn't own guns.

I'll stand by what I've said:
I'ts a mistake to bring a loaded gun (or any other weapon) into an ugly family conflict...in any way, shape or form.
Because if he's run out of other options, and guns and violence are his only answers now, one thing leads to another, and somebody could get killed, sooner or later.

No, I am not judging...that would be up to the courts...if this situation escalates into physical violence or homicide, as many situations do nowadays. But I am stating that the scenario in raising our kids has been changing drastically in the past generation, making it harder than ever to try to raise rebellious teens; so DO NOT USE DANGEROUS WEAPONS in an already volatile scenario; look for other solutions.

If you are in the older age range, we all got spanked as kids, no second thoughts. If you had say a sleep over at someones house, the parents even had permission to spake your child if things got outta hand. Kids were grounded and they stuck to their groundings. When "no" was said that was the end of it. You had to ask to do things, respect your parents, didn't talk back, did chores without a second thought and didn't get paid for none of it. If I got caught rolling my eyes at my mom, all hell broke loose, that was a no no back then. Things have changed so much in todays world. Some kids over rule their parents. Some parents are scared of their kids. Now that would be the day. With all the now "don't do this, don't do that" eg a tap on the bum, a good ol fashion spanking? Heaven forbid. We all turned out fine. My parents said stuff that embarassed me in front of kids, I didn't go slash over it. It made me smarten up and knew not to do it again. It's sad that kids have lost respect for their elders, hell, I know of teens who tell their parents to f off...pathetic. This dad obviously was fed up of talking to her, fell uponn deaf ears. There are other vids with dads smashing cell phones over what their kids were texting, and naked pics etc. Some parents will do anything to try to keep their kids on the straight and narrow. I personally don't think cause he used a gun he is a psycho, it was used to show just how absolutley fed up he was. I'm sure more has happened we don't know about. Sure, he could have kept the computer, or smashed it, I agree, but maybe it was a straight up shock factor that he is tired of her crap. I don't think she is in any physical harm from him, he just wanted to make a very bold statement, and he did. I for one applaud him...not for using a gun, but for being a parent and putting his foot down. Just my opinion on the vid. Some will agree and some will disagree.. we all have our own opinions about everything.

I agree 100%, my parents kicked my butt in front of people if I pulled stunts, I got spanked good. This child only had her comp broken and was given many warnings and her parents seem like they were at their end. Kids have way too many rights over parents these days. Good for dad!

Okay I am back finally!

I didn't think this post would cause so much talk but 6 pages, wow!

I must admit that I do not agree with what the father did either. It went to far, IMO. However, the daugher was obviously not an innocent party in this either. She broke rules that were set for her too. I understand that teenagers act out, defy their parents etc. I get that. The trouble is, teens these days are doing it more then ever it seems. It sure was not like that when I was a teen oh so many years ago!

Of course back then, we didn't have computers, internet, facebook, cell phones, smart phones, Twitter... on and on I could go!

Facebook, IMO, is not a good thing at all. Chris took down his profile a long long time ago, before he was in trouble even. It was just too complicated for him being on there. I have an account, but only use it for couponing and free offers etc. I have 1 friend on there, that is it.

People don't realize how much of what they say on the net is public! Google crawls the net everyday and records stuff. A google search on someone can turn up a lot of stuff. So privacy pretty much is out the window nowadays!

I guess what I am trying to say is be careful what you post online. You never know who will read it. It might be your friends, your parents, your ex, your employer.. anyone! How often have we heard about employers finding stuff on someones FB page, and out the door they go! Even lawyers are using Facebook in evidence in court cases!

So, in the end, the father took it too far (although I think some of it was just made for the video to look better!) but the daughter did as well.

The complaints about teenagers have gone on for generations and this will not change. While I think 'Hannah' is very sassy and disrespectful, I also think that when we remember the good old days when we were young, we see them through rose-coloured glasses. I'm just glad that I am neither Hannah nor her father!!!
