Like most women out there, my nail polish bottles were just randomly thrown in the nicest box, or basket I could find. So finally I decided to do something about it and so I made this with cardboard, wrapping paper, chopsticks, glue gun, ribbon and a wire spice shelf from the dollar store

total time: 3 hours (but totally worth it)
    total spending: $1.40!

    Instructions:
Step 1: cover the wire spice rack, purchased from Dollar Giant for $1.25 (sample image here: http://s7d5.scene7.com/is/image/CanadianTire/0420723_1?$medium$&defaultImage=image_na_EN) with a thick cardboard (I used cardboard that came from the computer mat I bought. I cut out more than twice the LENGTH of the rack. You can choose to have your nail polish display like how they display the spices shown in the image above, but since nail polish is fairly slim, I preferred to use the thin part of the rack (stood upright if you look at the image)

Step 2: start to cover the spice rack with the cardboard, glue gunning as you go, and folding the cardboard as you go (theres no easy way to fold the cardboard if you use a really stiff one like I did, but I find it makes it a whole lot sturdier than using poster board or something flimsy). I literally glue gunned everything down, every step of the rack was glued to every part of the cardboard (done again to create sturdiness and most importantly a flat surface for the nail polish to sit on).

**note: if you just wrap the wire spice rack, you'll only get 2 shelves, but since I wanted at least 4, I had to glue a cardboard backing to the top and another cardboard to the VERY bottom as to create another "shelf". but my top and bottom shelves were both afterthoughts, so if you want more than 2 shelves, I recommend glueing a cardboard to the top (sticking up), and another cardboard on the bottom (sticking out) but slightly extended to create a bottom (this part is hard to explain! so please PM me if its unclear, and I will try my best to assist)

Step 3: pick your favourite wrapping paper (maybe one thats not holiday related, as you don't want the nail polish display to be a seasonal thing), and wrap it nicely.

Step 4: I put a chopstick into the ribbon and then glued the ribbon together to create a "balcony railing?" for my nail polishes so that they won't topple forward, but you can be creative and use anything. The chopstick really needs to be length of the shelf, the sides was just ribbon. So for example, my ribbon length was 42cm, and my chopstick is 27cm, so I left about 8 cm length of ribbon for the sides (you can always trim off excess ribbon, but its harder to glue in ribbon if you fall short). My ribbon width is 4 cm, but what you put inside the ribbon depends on how thick your ribbon is. I tried cardboard, but it was way too flimsy

Step 5: Glue the ribbon to the edge of the back on the left side , and do the same to the right side. I find it really helps to put a row of nail polish on each shelf while you're doing this to get an accurate idea of how much space you really need

Step 6: arrange all your nail polish on the shelves as your prefer!
**for the very top shelf (shelf 1 of 4), I didn't use a chopstick simply because that was going to be my shelf for cuticle oils, nail polish removers, etc.

Hope these instructions are semi clear! I didn't think to document/take pictures along the way as I really wasn't sure this was going to turn out at all!

Please PM me if you need help, and I will try to respond quickly!

    That's awesome!

I have mine piled in baby wipes containers (they are the right size to stand up in).

    The pic link

I now use this online resizer, and save it to my pics here. (sometimes it takes a while to do each one, sometimes they zoom through quickly! I usually resize pics while I'm cruising around SC)
600 pixels is just the right size to post on SC, or 350 if you want smaller
