So some of you may or may not know this but I am in my last year of my PhD... so today I gave a departmental seminar on my research - which was my LAST REQUIREMENT before I can write up my thesis and defend! The end is in sight!
So relieved to have that done. Just wanted to brag a bit

Very cool! What field are you in; what's your thesis title?

I am in Chemistry. My thesis title is "A systematic study of self-discharge mechanisms in carbon-based, aqueous electrochemical capacitors"

Awesome - and I just love reading theses titles. Makes me feel SO inadequate with my two bachelors' degrees!

Wow, congratulations! I am also in the last leg of my doctorate and know how good it feels to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I must say that I have degree envy: yours sounds so much more interesting and exciting than my own! I'm taking a day to work on a project for my advisor, and then my next job is to start putting together my thesis chapters (written over the course of 1.5 years, so they have to be edited and finessed to fit together and with the analysis)....Last edited by glowworm2k; Thu, Mar 1st, 2012 at 02:24 PM.

...and I'm not being sarcastic to say that yours sounds more interesting, BTW... I'm at that phase where I want to be done so badly that I have started to see it as an unruly monster lurking in the corner :/

Thank you glowworm.
I can honestly say though, that at ths point everyone (that I know at least) is pretty disenchanted with their research and wants it so far away from them
Up until this very morning I kept contemplating writing up my master's - no joke.
What is your research on? Good luck on finishing yours up as well. I am rooting for you - hope you wrangle that monster.

Thanks for the good wishes
My Ph.D. is in criminology, and focuses on the social networks and community integration of women over the age of 50 who are criminalized, marginalized and homeless. The title is, "Talking over the (invisible) fence: Older marginalized women, identity and social networks."
I am hoping to be submitting sometime this spring although I still need my committee to review the full draft and sign off before it will be going anywhere. My advisor is going to be in Marseilles most of the summer (lucky her!!), so I might not be able to defend until late summer, but as long as it's submitted, the clock stops on counting how long it takes, so I guess I'll be okay with waiting - even though I just really really want it over with!!

That is awesome! Are you doing anything to celebrate when you complete your PhD?

Wow! Kudos to all you Brainy Canucks!!. . and Glowworm, don't envy your advisor too much. Marsaille isn't that fabulous. I found it kinda dirty. Muskoka blows it away (for beauty anyways)

Wow I want to congratulate all you University people out there who have worked so hard to get to this point. My granddaughter is just starting on her University journey and someday will be like you all and seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck to each and every one of you in the future.
