so I buy my mom an ASUS EEE Pad cuz she wants to learn how to use the internet and learn how to email (she's 83). She just loves it. She's emailing friends all over the world, she's googling, she's watching news videos, reading the paper, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, it's been about 2.5 months since she's had it. Well doesn't the USB cable that powers the thing crap out. So being the good son I return it to Future Shop. They confirm the cable is pooched and I'll have to buy I new one. I say no, it's less than 3 months old, you'll be giving me a new one. No sir, the little mook at the tech support counter says, it's still under the ASUS warranty, you have to contact them. FCUK! So I pick up the phone and contact ASUS. The little tech geek there says I have to mail the part to them, they will test it to determine if it works or not, even though I told him that I had already determined it was the cable and not the unit itself. So now I gotta wait for it to make it there, be tested, then a new one shipped back to me. Ah ha, says I, why not just go buy an after market cable. All the other devices have one available for them. Nooooo, not this device.... I am bound and determined not to have to ship this thing to the states so I go to the website, find the customer service link, find the b*tch email link, write a nasty letter to them and wala (thanks maggierocks) they are sending me a new cable free of charge.

Good for your mom! My mom, also 83 (could we be siblings?) took a course on how to use the PC/internet/email. Of course, I am now her "go to" person for help. Oi. And good for you for getting them to send the cable for free.
