At what age to kids start school?

it actually depends on the school divison you live in. winnipeg school division it is free for halfdays, mon-fri, pembina trails school division it is only 1 half day a week...and free....you can call river east transcona school division for what they do in your division. Also, not all preschools require your child to be pottytrained. I know this as my son, who will be turning 2 in sept. (and not pottytrained) will be going to preschool in sept, tues and thurs mornings from 9-11:30. I will be paying for this though.

To my understanding the majority of schools in Winnipeg do have Nursery classes. As long as they turn 4 by the end of December for that year. (If your child turns 4 by Decemeber 2012, he can enroll for the school year of 2012/2013) They're Mon-Fri for a half day. It's usually nice to go with the school nursery, as it gives the child a chance to socialize and make friends so when he enters Kindergarten the following year, he/she already has friends or will recognize familiar faces. And it's free.

Although, I do know that there are also "Pre-School's" out there, where some start at 2.5 but require the child to be potty-trained. And most of the time, I believe they have fees to enroll your child. But then again, there might be some free ones.

Never did nursery school because all it really is, is daycare - currently my son is at a subsidized daycare all day with kids ranging from 2-10yrs of age.

He will be starting kindergarden this Sept, he will be 5yrs on Sept 27


Pre-school is pretty much daycare - they can be enrolled anywhere from as young as 3 months - 6yrs of age

Kindergarden - your child must be at least 5yrs of age by the end of that school year

Nursery School - 2yrs - 5yrs of age (potty trained is dependant upon the place you go, but more than likely they should be potty trained or close to it)
