I learned have to evade the PST/HST in the grocery store: Don't buy processed foods:shop around the perimeter.... Buy veggies, fruit, meat,bread/cereals, milk, cheese.....
Juice and pop have the HST tax tag + DEP+environmental tax and I wanted to buy the juice 1.39 on sale + .17 HST + 0.03 Environ tax+ 0.05 DEP and it was 1.69 ea not worth it so I dropped off NOT worth it! It's this a good tip? Don't buy processed foods

I was just looking at a receipt today and noticed my package of almonds has HST.. not processed but snack food? I wonder who decides what falls into that taxable category?

I believe if the nuts are salted, they are taxable.
    Unsalted are not taxable.

and let's just hope they won't put taxes on food (regular, like veggies, bread, fruits, etc). This is one thing I was proud of Canada.

I have just learnt today (read it in a report), that come 1st Jan 2013, US is introducing a new tax (transaction tax) on all banking transactions: it will be equal to 1% of the value of the transaction..
How ridiculous, they are coming after every transaction. at a time when JP Morgan looses several billions of $ using tax payers money to stay afloat.

THis is being introduced in US, but don't take it lightly, once it gets going in US, Canada will definitely follow.. as this is a very lucrative source of money..
