Bake your bacon! I spread it on a parchment lined pan (foil would probably work too), and cook at about 325 for 15 minutes - keep an eye on it the first time to see how your oven does it, it can burn easily. On the parchment it contains the grease quite nicely, I just fish the bacon off and drain it a bit on paper towel, and let the grease solidify on the parchment, then put it in the green bin and my pan is mostly still clean. Less work to be there watching it, flipping it, having it splatter on you and less mess to clean up.

Save yourself money and the enviroment when mopping. I got a enviro friendly mop from Dollarama. You purchase the handle and mop head( get several) seperatly. The mop head is a cloth version of the traditiional mop. Just throw the mop head in the laundry when dirty. That way you always have a clean mop and no stinky mop smell. And you save money by not buying batteries, extra mop & solution refills if using a Swiffer mop.

I don't know how many of you have salad bars at restaurants you go to (but this applies to any kind of buffet) but I've recently noticed a little trick I can do to get the most out of my meal.

There's a burger I like on the menu of one restaurant that's about $8. Adding a side salad bar costs $5, for a grand total of about $13. Now, JUST the 'meal' salad bar alone costs $13, the SAME as getting the burger and the side salad bar. The same price, but the only difference is that you get a larger plate. I don't need a larger plate, I usually only go back once for seconds, and I do that regardless of the plate size. I just space it out more on a big plate.

So instead of eating my burger, I begin on the salad bar while the burger is on its' way. I have a hearty first serving of that and get a second plate around the time my burger shows up. I nibble at the burger, and eat a second plate of food and dessert, and have the majority of my burger and fries wrapped for me.

I figure if I'm paying for it, I may as well get the most out of my meals since you can't take the buffet food home. This would work wonderfully if you were on vacation somewhere and had the add-the-buffet option. You get dinner and lunch the next day out of one price, saves a ton of money on dining!

If you're ordering pizza, don't order marinara sauce. A tiny cup costs upwards of 70 cents! Instead, purchase a can of pasta sauce, like Hunt's Roasted Garlic and Herb pasta sauce. I got a can that's almost 700 ml for a dollar on sale at Zellers last weekend.

It's more or less a marinara sauce seasoned with roasted garlic (the secret to the sauce!) and all the basic pizza herbs.

If you're not fond of garlic chunks, strain the sauce before serving, the flavor will still be there. It is essentially the same thing, and you get at least 10 'cups' worth out of the can. Warm before serving for the authentic "wedged in the hole in the top of the pizza box" experience.

Got bugs eating you plants? Spray them with water and dishsoap. Works great and cheap.
