I just added up what I have spent on stamps in the past year trading coupons. It's around $100.00 Any suggestions on how to save money on stamps?

Rexall Drugs sometimes has 5% stamps and Shoppers Drug Mart a week near Christmas 10% off stamps.

I think I have been spending about $10 a month on stamps for trains and heavy envies. It does add up but I figured I will save more than that with coupons so it is worth it. I wish there were a good way to save though. Trading for stamps is ok but I always prefer coupons so I will save more than just the cost of a few stamps

Thanks for the replies. I did get two books last winter at SDM for 10% off - should have gotten a lot more.

For sure I have saved a whole lot more $$$ from trading coupons than I spent on stamps. I certainly wouldn't stop trading just to save that cost, and have traded for stamps, but agree, getting coupons is better and more useful. Lol, guess I shouldn't have figured out what I have spent in stamps (multiplied trades by .68 - the cost of a stamp here).

Costo has the 100 roll but I think it was only 2 or 3 dollar savings. Figured if I did the rexall ones at 10% off it was a better deal.

If my friends/family ask what I want as gifts (particularly if we are going a draw names type exchange), I say books of stamps. I also collect stamps very casually, and stamp dealers will often sell older Canadian stamps for less than face value and/or won't charge the tax on them. The only drawback is that you have to use a bunch of them to add up to the current value and they depreciate unlike the current P stamps.

I like to collect stamps just for fun so I am always looking at my envelopes. If a stamp is not canceled then I will soak it off and glue it on an envelope for free postage.

I do this, too - soak off the stamps that haven't been canceled, let them dry flat on paper towel, and then glue them on a new letter. When you're on the lookout for it, it's amazing how many stamps you can accumulate this way in a year.

I managed to collect a whole lot of stamps by trading for them. but I ususally trade inserts for stamps. The inserts are easy to get and I usually only ask 1 or 2 stamps per insert plus a stamp to cover the postage, but it added up fast for me and there is always people looking to get inserts if they missed them or don't get them.

Some of the RCSS sell books of stamps so you can get them when they have a tax free day for a 13% discount.

How can you tell they haven't been canceled? I never thought of doing that before because I assumed they had some way of marking them that only appeared to their sensors LOL

I think it`s just the black marks the machine makes across the stamp. I reuse the unmarked stamps, but don`t get too many of those.

@margaret_ims: I haven`t traded stamps for inserts recently. I forget not everyone gets the newspaper inserts.

@kerrylj: Thanks I never thought about tax free day at RCSS to get stamps. I take it they have stamps at customer service?

I didn't think about it until the one day I was in Zehs and someone came to the cunstomer service desk when I was getting a raincheck and got stamps on a tax free day and he got them for the face value/no tax. I know I have seen the stamps at Superstore as well but check with your store to be sure.
