Thread: Free $25 gc to Canadian Tire
-
Tue, Sep 25th, 2012, 09:03 PM #1
I went into the store today, and they had a representative greeting you as you came in. She was saying how they want to switch from giving the CT paper money to a new rewards type card. Naturally, I signed up.
Anyway, she said if you signed up with her on her clipboard they mailed you your card along with a free $25 gc, with no minimum purchase.
It is also one per PERSON, so each member in your family can get one (if they are of age)
You need your driver's liscence as she copies down the info. It arrives 2-4 weeks later she said.
I would call ahead and ask if a rep is there, because they travel from location to location she said. This thread is currently associated with: Canadian Tire

I hope they sneakily didn't sign you up for a CT credit card .
You never know , what these in store card reps do.
Whenever I got to CT , these guys try to sign me up for a CT Mastercard and I always refuse , and they always offer me freebies and rewards to sign up.

I agree with TJ, did they sign you up for a credit card or a points card? $25 seems like a lot to get someone to sign up for a points card
Did the form ask for your social insurance number? If so, it was a credit card and that will go against your credit rating
If Canadian Tire had a new points card, they would surely advertise it all over TV and their flyerLast edited by torontogal12; Wed, Sep 26th, 2012 at 08:04 AM.
Apply every possible promo code to your cart, at every store that you visit (and get points for cash back on top of that?). It's sweet and easy with HONEY.

Unless you're in Nova Scotia, it was probably a credit card. They nabbed my brother with this too, he thought it was just a points card. Guy told him to show this card and pay for your stuff like you normally would and you'll get 2x the Canadian Tire money, plus this bonus gift. Didn't mention to him at all it was a Mastercard -its his own fault for not reading over what he signed up for but I thought it was pretty slimy none the less.
I almost hated when our local store had a great sale on because you'd know the credit card pushers would be creeping about, bugging you everywhere you went. We even had one insult my boyfriend, telling him " What's wrong with you, you think you're too good for free money?" in a nasty tone when he refused to sign up for the card. I don't know what tactics they're told to use, but that one definitely doesn't work.Last edited by xXtiggerXx; Wed, Sep 26th, 2012 at 08:34 AM. Reason: typo

Hi all,
no they didn't ask for my social insurance number just my address and phone number.
The lady said that they had put the mastercard and points card in one, and if you only wanted to use it as a points card you simply didn't have to call in to activate it. If you activated it, then yes it was a mastercard, otherwise you just used it as a points card.
Hope this helps

Hopefully they only signed you up for the Canadian Tire 'Money' Advantage card
, which is just a points card and not for the
Canadian Tire Options® MasterCard.
When you get the card , if it has a MasterCard symbol on it , its going to be a credit card , even if you don't activate it , it will remain on your file .
SIN card is optional, When applying for a credit card ..so even if you didn't give your SIN, you can still
apply for a CC.
Don't believe anything these reps say , as they have a quota to meet everday or they get fired, if they don't
show the results
.
They also get a bonus for each signup.
