Do you line dry your clothes in the winter outside?

Just wondering if anyone else puts their clothes to dry outside in the winter besides me? I don't do it everytime but do try as often as possible.

I also have a clothes drying rack which I place near the woodstove to dry the clothes.

I hardly ever use the dryer, just wondering if anyone else line dries in the winter.

PS, It is not my intention to be copying the other thread about line drying outside, I'm just curious now that Fall is approaching and it's getting cooler outside.

always- takes longer but will dry even at -20!
just throw the (dry ) towels in the dryer for 10 minutes to fluff them up if they are cripsy!

There is a bylaw where I live, so no drying anything outside unfortunately

I hang them out all winter unless it is snowing and I have an indoor line for then. They smell even better when you bring them in then in the summer.

No I don't. I use the dryer now till spring.

i never have as i have no place to hang it all. but have been told if you use fabric softener when washing it will all come out nice and soft in the end.

Try to hang out the clothes all year long, saves a lot on the hydro bill. Have these plastic hangers, with mutiple clothes pins, can hang on the shower curtain rod for small things, socks, etc. Just found a couple at the dollar store for my daughter, at the laundromat costs $5 a load to dry the clothes, yikes!!

I have a drying rack that I place over a vent. After a day or so, if there are towels, socks, etc., I give them a quick tumble in the dryer for 10 min on the fluff up (not actually called that, but it's close) setting.

I use a drying rack in the winter and dry bigger items in the dryer.

We aren't allowed to use a drying rack on our balcony of the apartment . So we've moved in in four feet to in front of the balcony door inside the apartment. We try to use the drying rack whenever possible just because it costs $2 per dry. So the drying rack makes it free.

Yes, I totally agree the clothes dried outside in the winter smells so clean & fresh compare to summer.

A lot of municipalities are reversing those bylaws due to environmental concerns. You might want to check with your city.

Hi there,

Not sure where you are located but I am in Ottawa and found out that most of these bylaws no longer exist. I have a neighbour that contacted the city and was told it's no longer "illegal". Might be worth checking out, alot of people still think they can't.

When I first got married I didn't HAVE a dryer (I think it was 1857 - lol) so I HAD to hang all our laundry outside. I remember bringing in sheets that were frozen stiff and stood up by themselves! Now we don't have an outside line - but I wish we did - hubby doesn't like the "look" of it.

loll...And I taught my eldery neigbour was crazy to line dry her clothes outside at -30 degres llol....
I manage to dry my clothes outside the summer...or in the bathroom shower bars ..but I hve not a dryer rack....it got destroy...but I want to use my dryer machine less..to cut the cost of electricity.
