Last Friday, a high school friend of mine posted on his facebook something that happened to his brother-in-law. He works on his own and was alone doing a job when he made a 25 ft fall and landed in a sitting position on concrete. His cell phone was in his truck... Since he was alone he had to crawl all the way to a phone. It took him 3 hours since he passed out from the pain so many times.
His hips are fractured at 2 different places, he has a broken vertebrae and his bladder was perforated. He is currently in hospital having a second surgery. The first one he had on Saturday, putting metal plates and screws to fix his hips and now for his vertebrae. He will be in hospital for 2 or 3 months and rehabilitation for 6 to 8 months.
He had no insurance and won't be getting workers comp. His wife (who I went to school with) just finished hairdressing school. Of course, she is devastated, is planning to work 7 days a week to have enough money to cover what he was bringing home AND be at the hospital every day to see him.
Carl and Karine (brother and sisters) were so good, generous and kind to me in high school while everyone else were busy bullying me that I knew I had to do something for them. So, I contacted my dear Montreal coupon gang and went to check my stockpike. I filled 3 bags of various things, soaps, shampoo, razors, body wash, deodorants, pasta, canned soup, dog food, dog treats, snack of all kind, coffee, ice tea, dish liquid and my famous pancake homemade mix. I contacted Carl saying we would be at his place the next day. He was fixing his fence to that he could dogsit his sister's 2 Cocker Spaniels. DH insisted we go help him.
Patty told me to stop at her place, she would prepare a box. Snuff told me to stop by her shop for sausages and sandwiches. Abouret brought me 3 bags filled with food and other necessities. 2010ontest is bringing me homemade cans, EuropeanPinguin is also bringing me a carepackage, Georgia is sending me gift card for gas and I JUST received an esso card from Supere.
I showed up at Carl with a car load of stuff for his sister. Patty said she'd prepare a box, she lied... she prepared 3 boxes, 1 of personal hygiene stuff, 1 of cleaning products and 1 of food. PLUS a huge bag of potatoes, 1 bag of onions, 1 bag of apples and a big bag with toilet paper, tissues and paper towels. Carl couldn't help the tears when he saw how much we brought and when I told him that more are coming. We brought everything to Karine's place once the boys were done with the fence. Carl and Karine's Mom was house and dog sitting till and she was not able to keep the tears in either.
She said something that will always stay with me: :We will need to invent a new word because Thanks is not enough!"
All this backstory to brag that I have the best of the best in my circle of friends and to see everyone coming together to help one of my friends that they don't even know brought tears to MY eyes.

I read this and teared up as well. What a wonderful wonderful group of people you are. I know this is not the first time Patty has done this. She is a remarkable person. 2010ontest, Arielmac, Snuff, Abouret, EuropeanPinguin, Supere and any of the other Montreal coupon gang that I may have missed, that have helped out or helping my hat off to you all. Truly inspiring story.

I love my Skanky Ladies. Stories like this really show how much, as a forum, we care for each other.
I hope your friend's brother gets well soon. He, his wife, his family and friends will be in my thoughts.
