I just recently started my O/N (11p-7a) position at Oakville location.

The selection was long and tiresome...

Phone interview (20mins) - lots of customer and service questions...
Group selection interview (1.5 hours) - speed dating ... 90s questions interview with the managers

Once everything goes well, you will get a call back in a couple of days to arrange a time to come in for job offers signatory.

    1 day orientation (10a-3p) - paid
Training - CBL (Computer Based Learning Modules) - you must get 80% to move on to another module

Benefits offers for FT employee Disadavantage/Advantage

    Profit sharing
    Group RRSP
Stock option (15% matchup by WM)
    6-month probationary
No vacation until after 12-months of service
    Maternity benefit top-up
    Medical/Dental benefits - flex plans

10% discount card for associate & spouse, students live with their parents (their parents can share the discount card) - used worldwide (everything + groceries, except clearance items - CANADA); everything except groceries/clearance in US

    Sounds good!

My younger brother worked at WM for years - it's great that there are medical benefits, and he loved having his birthday off with pay! (don't know if that was just at his store, or what; I thought it was cool!).

If you can afford to participate in this, I recommend it. During the worst part of the recession, only a handful of companies made money. Guess who was on the list? Yup - Walmart stock.

Thanks for the advice, I'm planning to put aside $100/pay as an emergency fund/ rainy day money
